Still a Stakes to me.
Anyway, Stradivarius is out and Trueshan may yet be pulled on account of the going, which appeared to be riding much faster yesterday than it had on the opening day. Alan King has said that the withdrawal of his horse’s main rival will not sway his decision.
Does that make Coltrane a good thing? 🤔
August 19, 2022 at 11:17 #1611820If trueshan gets pulled out I may back Quickthorn to beat Coltrane as he could get an easy lead and it could get tactical which will inconvenience coltrane
August 19, 2022 at 11:17 #1611821Wasn’t this race originally a Handicap on the first day?
Pretty sure I was there to see Heighlin win it on the day High Line sired four winners on the card.

August 19, 2022 at 13:17 #1611851Donegal Prince and Lester won it in 1981 and before it went to G3 in 1998 and G2 in 2004 a host of top stayers also won it like:
Valuable Witness, Weld, Further Flight twice, Double Eclipse twice and the last 3yr old to win it in 1995, Celeric twice and good old Persian Punch twice.
August 19, 2022 at 13:24 #1611852Cheers, chaps – 1980-1983 were the four years I went to Benson & Hedges Day at York and four cracking days racing they were too.

August 19, 2022 at 14:09 #1611867Coltrane for me.
August 19, 2022 at 14:29 #1611875Blimey. Thrashed em.
August 19, 2022 at 14:31 #1611876That was shockingly bad riding from the other jockeys who basically give their mounts no chance of winning – not like it was a surprise move tactically what he did and they just let him go….Stewards should be having a word.
August 19, 2022 at 14:34 #1611877Hope you backed the winner, FF91. Your interpretation was spot-on! 👍
August 19, 2022 at 14:36 #1611879Eased down last half furlong and still won by 14L
August 19, 2022 at 14:36 #1611880It looked poor but I am inclined to think he was in a different league to them on the day. They were all off the bridle before the home turn.
August 19, 2022 at 14:39 #1611881I wonder if dual purpose trainer Morrison would ever give him a run over hurdles?
August 19, 2022 at 14:41 #1611883I’m inclined to think Coltrane has run below par compared to his run behind Kyprios. Taking that race literally, Quickthorn is the best stayer on the planet.
August 19, 2022 at 14:45 #1611884HIghly unlikely it would have made any difference to the result but at the start of the race they gave him far too much rope and pretty much any chance was gone before they even got halfway.
August 19, 2022 at 14:46 #1611885Would have been real interesting to see what Strad and Trueshan would have done tactics wise if they had of run in the race, as both tend to be held up.
