WTF was that commentary?
It even made The Filly Factor seem professional.
It wasn’t one of Robin Gray’s was it?
Try this for size. Who’s his pundit?
Prince William?
October 4, 2011 at 20:52 #372966It was Barty (although he does sound like Robin Gray when he’s working on the French Racing.
Not sure if he was on course or watching from a monitor although to be fair the finish for the Abbaye is about half a mile from the stands!!!
That absolutely was not Barty.
October 4, 2011 at 21:16 #372968How can you have a race half a mile from the stands? It’s like going to the theatre and not opening the curtains, or going to the cinema and not allowing the audience to sit facing the screen.

It’s hardly further away from the stands than the 5F course at Sandown,
Moe
, and similarly configured. The viewing from the
Restaurant Panoramique Sea Bird
(where Monsieur et Madame
Pinza
had ensconced themselves during the
Gp 3 Abbaye Trial
, with some roast teal salad and white burgundy
*
, was excellent.
As were the teals.

I should add that this light repast was very affordable, thanks to free entry to the course!
October 5, 2011 at 05:32 #372987Paul,
I stand corrected!
The replay you are watching is most DEFINATELY Robin Gray. (Not sure who he’s working for).I assumed incorrectly that you were watching the same feed which ATR and RUK used (which was Barty!)
My apologies to both Barty and Robin Gray for the misunderstanding.
Incidentally, did anyone see Beebs coverage of the Arc? So You Think (geddit!) Croc McGrath was watching the Aussie import a little too closely?
October 5, 2011 at 10:38 #373012Pinza; I’m actually overwhelmed by Longchamp, and can’t wait to go back. Apart from not seeing the sprint [and that’s my fault for not doing my homework] it was the perfect days racing. I thought I’d died and gone to heaven.

Well put,
Moe
. It’s a pure joy – no rowdiness, no bad food, cheap entry, superb racing, great atmosphere. What more could anyone want?
To quote Sterne in
Sentimental Journey
…
"They order this matter better in France"
!
Monsieur Romanet did a revealing interview with Nick Luck on Sunday. In essence he has every right to crow about what France Galop have achieved in the past decade, despite the economic turndown. A large part of this has been due to the effectiveness of the Pari-Mutuel of course, and the absence of vampiric bookmakers: but the rest is due to having more control, better negotiation skills, and more foresight as to globalisation than many of their BHA counterparts.
Plus of course they’ve concentrated energies on essentials, not PR, and set out to serve the Sport rather than stupid Media perceptions.
