He deserves his own thread this fellow, how many 6yo’s win a King George and a Gold Cup in the same year?

I’m pleased with this portrait shot of Long Run,focus on the eye, select a slow shutter speed and a slight Pan effect captures the sense of movement!

February 18, 2012 at 21:21 #392329Was that yesterday? Did they have the earplugs in? I thought they didn’t race with them yesterday, maybe they took them out before the race.
Anyway – great photo KF. Another with a fine head on him (the horse, not you !!).

They were taken out just before the start DC.
February 18, 2012 at 21:37 #392334It was yesterday David,I honestly dont know about the ear plugs,I certainly didn’t see any sign of them. With 12500 Punters cheering him on it was certainly an experience listening to a united roar as he jumped the last.Brilliant atmosphere!
February 18, 2012 at 22:01 #392340I’m of the opinion that
Long Run
was as close to peak fitness as you could get him yesterday,he was real fizzy in the parade ring and proving quite a handful for his lass!

February 18, 2012 at 22:25 #392348What was noticeable yesterday was how well
Long Run
looked after his exertions, the above picture shows him going out and the one below shows just how well he still looks afterwards, hardly blowing nor sweating,he was very fit imo!

February 18, 2012 at 22:53 #392352I think he’s been trained, Henderson style, for one day and one day only.
My banker for the meeting barring a fall.
February 19, 2012 at 02:35 #392385It’s bizarre how little respect he gets considering what he’s achieved. He may not be everyones’ idea of this years’ Gold Cup winner, but whether or not he does win it, he’s still a landmark for all young horses. Just hope he hasn’t done the stereotypically French thing and peaked too young.
February 19, 2012 at 09:02 #392397Strange but true there is some free money available this morning.
In the who will start fav market, what should LR be? I reckon about 1/3 . However, you can get 8/11 at Totesport. I don’t think this will last long.
February 19, 2012 at 11:50 #392427If we were talking about their true chance Kasparov, Long Run would definitely start favourite. However, as Boz says, hasn’t caught the imagination of Joe Public like Kauto Star. On the day, public support (weight of money) will ensure Nicholls’ horse shortens up and as a result Long Run likely to drift. Whether it will be enough for them to flip flop, don’t know.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 19, 2012 at 16:34 #392477You can get 2.75 (7/4) at Coral against KS starting fav so then you have a risk free overbroke book (8/11 and 14/8) , assuming no other horse starts fav.
Of course if you think KS will start fav you will also do well by backing him to win at 4.7 and laying him back at the starting price.
However, I don’t think any new info will come out between now and the start so LR will start fav.
February 19, 2012 at 19:38 #392510Well Gordon anything for a laugh.
Nice horse this Long Run but no more a superstar than flying in the air.
He won the King George because THE KING had a day off but like dozens before him won a gold cup but then again so did What A Myth when he was 12.
Long time before this horse deserves a thread of his own
February 19, 2012 at 19:41 #392511So who is the best horse at Seven Barrows?
Sprinter Sacre by a proverbial mile, that’s who!

Long Run
has never been out of the first 3 in 21 runs, winning 15 times,5 of which have been Grade 1’s.He has amassed over a million pounds in Prizemoney and is only 7yo.
He is the Champion staying Chaser having won last years Gold Cup and is the horse to beat in this years!Sprinter Sacre
on the other hand has achieved sweet fanny adams in comparison and his 65k Prizemoney is a pittance compared to ‘Long Runs’.I have said it before but considering everything I have seen of this ‘Sprinter Sacre’ I still maintain at 6/4 he is the Lay of the meeting, his off fore has such an extension to it that he’ll step on a fence around Cheltenham and pay the price,he took off way too early at Newbury on occassions as he was calling the shots,Barry was just a passenger and at times i’d guess a nervous one as this beast of a horse attacked every fence with such ferocity it was as though the fence wasn’t there.Visually enthralling to watch but he’s playing with Fire if Barry doesn’t show him who’s boss!
