The 3.40 at Lingfield became a farce after no one could see the finishing order of the race apart from the winner.
The race was in doubt when the judge questioned if the finishing post could be seen.
The race ended up being ran but the fog and mirk meant no one could see the winning post.
There were no spotters on the line to check the results and an ongoing enquiry in taking place to find the second place in the 7 runner race.
Matt Chapman and Simon Mappletoft questioned if there were procedures in place for this occuring.
Punters who have had each way or forecast bets and placepots are currently in limbo.
January 16, 2013 at 17:09 #426544Looks like they haven’t awarded a third place.
I’ve resigned myself to the media not communicating what has finished third in a small-field, but surely someone running the show should realise that a third place is important for trifecta bets.
Have the win-single spot betting oppressors had a word after seeing trifecta turnover increase fivefold since the bet was offered on all races of 3+ runners a couple of months back?
January 16, 2013 at 22:01 #426589What will the form figure symbol be for the five horses who were not identified by the Judge as completing? 0?
January 16, 2013 at 23:30 #426606The judge, Dave Smith, will have absolutely hated it that he could not see enough to give the entire result, including every single place, given how keen he is normally to call very tight finishes straight away without the benefit of a photo.
Commentator David Fitzgerald did well to call the winner, judging by the pictures I saw of the race.
I was watching some races from a recent Plumpton meeting tonight and Dave Smith even had to call a photo for a very tight finish there. He will not have liked that either….
January 17, 2013 at 08:36 #426620If the judge could not see the finishing line clearly then the race should have been declared void.
It seems once again his ego has got in the way of common sense.
January 17, 2013 at 08:49 #426621If the judge couldn’t see the finishing line clearly then the race shouldn’t have started. Having seen the gloomy conditions that prevailed all afternoon I can’t believe that the visibility changed significantly in the minute and a bit it took to run the race.
