The former Andre Fabre trained Group 1 winner as a 2YO has joined Arnaud Chaille-Chaille’s yard to become a jumper.
He will be set to compete in May at Auteuil.
Not a bad inclusion to the jumps ranks at all. Can jumping enthusiasts tell me of any big time flat performers becoming jumpers later on – successful or not?
March 30, 2008 at 10:46 #154548One that just came to mind was Walk In The Park.
March 30, 2008 at 11:30 #154555Recent? Percussionist, who (like Linda’s Lad) won the Lingfield Derby Trial. From the dim and distant past you have horses like Aurelius, who won the St Leger and then competed over hurdles.
March 30, 2008 at 12:12 #154568Royal Gait, who "won" the 1988 Ascot Gold Cup and then the Champion Hurdle.
March 30, 2008 at 13:05 #154571Brown Jack and Le Paillon went in the other direction.
March 30, 2008 at 13:45 #154573Alderbrook, Moonax.
Have a hazy memory that Admetus, winner of the then ‘Laurel International’ went over jumps, trained by Fred Winter.
March 30, 2008 at 16:58 #154595Vintage Crop – Melbourne Cup and irish Ledger winner, probably would have own the champion if his attention had been solely focused on national hunt
…the most recent potential recruit could have been ‘Ask’ but now they are lookign to focus on the flat as he is close to group 1 company
March 30, 2008 at 17:05 #154598Kasthari ws trained on the level by Sir Michael Stoute and became a decent jumper for Howard Johnson and although he never reached the top he won a few and is now in the care of James Bethal
March 30, 2008 at 17:08 #154599Acropolis was fourth in the Arc and couldn’t win over hurdles at kelso.

Sanmartino won the Ebor for Barry Hills in 1995, before becoming agood hurdler for David Nicholson. Further back, Sea Pigeon was no mug.
March 30, 2008 at 18:30 #154616And talking of the Ebor, the Peter Schiergen trained El Tango was 6th in last years race, as well as winning the German St Leger. He is now with Francois Doumen.
Darren – AngloGerman
March 30, 2008 at 21:34 #154643is he infertile, why is he back Europe?
March 30, 2008 at 22:08 #154648Sondrio – won the Hialaah Turf Cup in USA Gd1 in 1986 I think, then won the 1989 Supreme Novices for MC Pipe.
Alderbrook won at the Arc festival in October 1994, then the Champion Hurdle the following March.
March 30, 2008 at 23:54 #154658Good to see some very shrewd and knowledgable people on this thread…!
From a different angle, Collier Hill started off winning a bumper but didn’t show much over hurdles having progressed rather well on the flat (how does a multiple G1 winner get beaten in a Class 3 Novice Hurdle at Musselburgh???!)
March 31, 2008 at 04:51 #154665Graham Wylie owns a few.
Inglis Drever won £27,000 prize money on the flat, £3k on the All Weather for the Prescott yard and so far around £754,000 from hurdle races.
Arcalis won £135,000 for Jenny Ramsden flat racing and £131,000 since going over to Nat Hunt racing.
Another ex Prescott horse was Coat Of Honour winning £69k flat racing and over 100k since going nat hunt racing.
March 31, 2008 at 08:20 #154677Alderbrook, Moonax.
Have a hazy memory that Admetus, winner of the then ‘Laurel International’ went over jumps, trained by Fred Winter.
Ah, Moonax, ran a few times over 2m over Hurdles- and if I remember, was too slow!!!
March 31, 2008 at 08:31 #154679What do those in the know think of Linda’s Lad and his opportunities to perform well over the fences? Does he have the pedigree? The conformation?
