I see corals are offering 1/6 elusive kate keeping it 7/2 sky lantern getting it. What do they know!
July 16, 2013 at 10:14 #445787IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;
If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;And treat those two impostors just the same
;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
‘ Or walk with Kings – nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And – which is more – you’ll be a Man, my son!July 16, 2013 at 10:38 #445792AL kazeem kept the race and that was the correct decision, the rider of the 2nd admitted he would only have got 2nd place if he had’ent had to snatch up. The two cases are completely different.
Andyod and others don’t think so.
A blanket rule to disqualify horses who interfere with others in the closing stages of a race is just a ridiculous idea.
Once again, as in the Al Kazeem race, i thought there was an unlucky loser but the winning jockey did little wrong – whip in the correct hand. Elusive Kate drifted over, as she tends to.
In this case, though, i think the placings should have been switched, with no disqualifications or punishment for connections of Elusive Kate.

Of course it is, it’s completely mad. Not least by attempting to define ‘interference’ and ‘closing stages’.
The rules are spot on as they stand. These occasional debates crop up when there is a perceived injustice in being overly advantageous to the first-past-the-post. But things are vastly better than they used to be, with almost random disqualifications occurring in years past.
It reminds me of the recent Test Match, where massive media coverage greeted a couple of decisions that the third umpire may have got wrong. Fine, but this is to ignore the thousands of really poor decisions that due to the new technology are now given correctly.
No system will ever be 100%, but the ‘advantage to the winner’ protocol that is now followed is the best there’s ever been.

July 16, 2013 at 16:16 #445812Maybe the stewards backed her, oh! Sorry that cant be, they are not allowed to bet, or are they.
Do people really say things like this anymore? Do they honestly think like this in the modern world?
I think I last heard this sort of comment in about 1983.

July 17, 2013 at 08:35 #445848With every institution in Britain riven with corruption including Banking, Politics, Media, Police, Health, Food Industry, do we actually believe that Horseracing is as pure and unsullied as the driven snow?
You cannot be serious.
July 17, 2013 at 22:42 #445900Interference can be defined as coming off a straight line so that you force other horses either to come off a straight line or to lose their action or momentum in their run to the winning post.You can come off a straight line provided that no ill effect is caused to another horse.In the States to take another horses ground is punishable by the stewards.

The Rules?
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysJuly 18, 2013 at 15:42 #445924Appeal has been dismissed and Elusive Kate keeps the race.
July 18, 2013 at 16:07 #445927Sky Lantern connections lose their deposit.
July 18, 2013 at 18:53 #445938I saw both trainers just before the decision was announced and couldn’t tell from their expressions which way the verdict had gone:-

Seriously though, they never had anything coming with Sky Lantern.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 18, 2013 at 19:26 #445939Phew! Looks as though the corrupt stewards have collected on their massive bets on Elusive Kate then.
I really do admire these hard-gambling stewards, especially their amazing skill at only ever backing horses involved in inquiries. They never seem to back the horse that finishes 10th do they?
Makes you wonder why they bother with all that stewarding. They should just bail out to the South of France…
