Luska Lad has always jumped out to his right so he was always going to get the rail after the last.

He looks too small for chasing. I’d say Byrnes will target Liverpool with a view to stepping up to staying trips next season.

I always thought he was quite a decent size horse. Obviously not a chunky chaser but even still i think their wasting their time over Hurdles. He could be very exciting over fences and even if it doesnt work out he can come back to the smaller obstacles.

While went up the inner he didnt commit and ended up switching around Luska lad still and nosed if for 2nd. If he stayed on the inner fair enuf but he didn’t commit and ended up in no mans land.

HF could not have been more impressive, especialyy as his jumping was stickier than usual. A worthy fav for the Champion Hurdle, but a fast run race in good ground will be a different challenge from a slowly-run race on heavy ground

There’s the Champion Hurdle winner 2011, whether its in England or Ireland, who knows yet.

Did £100 treble Zaidpour 4/11, Hurricane Fly 8/11 and Big Zeb 5/4, pretty gutted today.

Hard old game Ruby when you have the odds stacked against you.

The thing about Hurricane Fly is you aren’t going to outstay him as he’s as good over 2m 4f as he is over 2m.

Perhaps they should have made it and kicked 3 out to try and run the finish out of him but he just does it so easy he’d probably have beaten him even easier.

Spot on, today is a million miles from running in the Champion Hurdle but up to now everything points to him beaing able to travel comfortably at any pace and kick off it.

What beats most horses in the Champion Hurdle isn’t just the fact they go like the clappers. Cheltenham as we know is an undulating and with so may plans being hatched during the race and everything trying for it’s life you get sudden changes in pace. Good horses that don’t have a high cruising speed are very often found wanting and run miles below their best.

One thing Hurricane Fly does have is a very high cruisng speed and ravels with eaese whther they go slow or fast. That makes him a very easy horse to ride and be where you want to be and I can’t see any reason why he would’t be involved in the finish on any ground.

The Hurricane’s price gets shorter, even though he beat the same horses again, rather over rated horses, Solwhit is not a 160+ horse IMO. Whilst he was visually impressive, again, the Irish Hurdlers are not the best. I see some firms have HF prices at 7/2, it’s a very short price about a horse who has not travelled outside Ireland in over two years.

I have to say I was most impressed HF today. He has real quality and the way he travels and quickens marks him down as high class. The Champion Hurdle is shaping up to be the race of the fetival.

Also so refreshing to hear Willie Mullins say that he wants to give him at least another 3 runs before the festival. A lesson for some of the other trainers who are wrapping their Cheltenham hopefuls in cotton wool until March. I was on the verge of going straight to Cheltenham myself.

"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"

I hope HURRICANE FLY will go at Cheltenham to run the Champion Hurdle.
The match against BINOCULAR and PEDDLERS CROSS could be very interesting.

    Hi there

New member tho have been reading TRF as a guest for 10 monthss (Leading up to CF 2010) Impressed with HF today but thing that struck me was time, that was I think 7 secs slower than other juvenile hurdle run by FT? don’t know Irish courses, but assuming sun on same one?

Therefore is cut in HF price for CH really that justified? Had somethign on already him AP at WH 11/2 B4 today but think any "value" @ 4/1 or 9/2 coral may now have gone. What do others think?

Their was a slow pace and the ground would have been more cut up hence the difference but your point is still extremely interesting.

You should follow the first 3 in the Novice race after that

Really like Zaidpour (sorry if digressing from this column but responding to RIGIS) but don’t know which race to back hin in AP!! Therefire not dipping toe in water though 10/1 for supreme looks a tempting price if I knew he was going to run in it. With all of other Mullins horses that I feel will go for longer races than supreme then think zp will go for this but hate nothing more thanbacking AP and not even getting a run for my money!!

Do others think ZP will go for supreme or something else? Again appologies for digressing off this article and HF performance

Mullins doesn’t make his mind up until 2 weeks before the race.

You be mad to back his novices at any price. He move them at last minute notice if another horse beats them on the gallops.

    Fiveforthree was a prime example.

Keep your powder dry and until you know Ruby rides then its pointless as you need every advantage possible in such big races

Here what your saying JJ. A point I made regarding Menorah beating 2 novices…..in a couple of weeks time if Binocular wins well he’ll be fav and if Peddlars stoats in elsewhwere he too will get a crack.

The bookies play games with punters……fresh in the mind they are more likely to place a bet, so they cut the price.

Taking all in to consideration the real Market for me is more like Binocular 7/2. Hurricanne Fly 9/2 and Peddlars Cross 5/1, Menorrah 6/1.

The best CH form is winning form and Binoclar has done nothing to say he isn’t still the one they have to beat.

Personally as you know I fancy HF to win but with 4 horses like those and Duinguib a lively outsider only afool would say anything is certain…………..my advice is ignore the betting and back whatt you think will win on the day.

    Fist,

I don’t think your prices are unreasonable, I think the major players are all within 7-8lbs of each other, it will be interesting to see if they all turn up and run to form, I wouldn’t discount Khyber Kim also.
