Ginto is a fab looking horse but Whatdeawant has already beaten him in a bumper. Although the Mullins horse didn’t look overly convincing in his maiden hurdle win at Navan, on the same day and distance as Ginto, his time was a fraction faster that Ginto’s even though it was his first start of the season and Ginto’s second, and he was carrying 9lb more. Ok races run differently etc etc but I still think the prices should be closer and took the 4/1 for Whatdeawant.
January 1, 2022 at 17:35 #1576050As said on the ballymore thread, i fully expect ginto to win this and go a firm favourite for the ballymore (hes still 20/1+), got some 9/4 about him for this yesterday but id back him at 5/4 comfortably, the eric bloodaxe formline looks rock solid IMO, hollow games would worry me ever so slightly, but no, if ginto doesnt win this comfortably ill be disappointed and i fully expect hollow games to be a good distant 2nd. If something beats ginto, theyll be the ballymore winner.
January 2, 2022 at 14:19 #1576198That was good ham, he didn’t need much of a shove to go and win that.
January 2, 2022 at 14:23 #1576199Yeah id say he won that with plenty in hand at the end, was a good field and a good test to see where he was at, im confident thats the ballymore winner, hard to see anything having that power at the end at chelt, whatdeawant will have a big prize in him on better ground i think
January 2, 2022 at 14:26 #1576201Impressive today, ham, but I can’t help feeling that something will have too much toe for him at Cheltenham, especially if the ground isn’t too soft.
Still, Ginto will make a fine chaser next season- he’s a strapping, really good-looking sort.
January 2, 2022 at 14:40 #1576206Agreed Gladiateur.
Don’t think Ginto is all that especially over 2 1/2. I’ll be taking him on come March anyway if he goes to the Ballymore.
Nice long term chaser indeed, but not one to get carried away with, don’t actually rate this year’s Lawlors that highly.
Hollow Games didn’t do his AB claims too bad at least.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 2, 2022 at 16:04 #1576231Haha hes a better horse than Hollow Games yet Hollow Games is your AB pick. ;o)
January 2, 2022 at 21:49 #1576285Looked like they went pretty slow and getting to dictate in front Ginto very much had the run of the race
Whatdeawant seemed to have a pretty rough run of things throughout
At this very early stage Ginto is my idea of the winner of the 2023 3 mile novice chase

Lol Mike yep very true at the stage anyway- not always the second coming that wins an AB though and 2m4 was never a trip i’d fancy HGs over….just keep Ginto to the 2m4 and i’m happy

He also looked a bit gangly and weaker than some of the others and doesn’t have a great hurdling technique. He made a mistake at the 3rd last and was disappointingly unable to get the revs up again. I don’t know if that was due to being physically a bit weak or mentally not the toughest, or just doesn’t have it in him. I’ll have another look at him after a summer’s grass with a fence in front of him.
