Yes, Omicron is milder. But we don’t know for certain that it will wipe out Delta or just continue to run alongside it. Hopefully the former but I don’t think we’re there yet.And viruses tend to mutate when a large number of people at any one time have the virus. I’m not sure that it is true that viruses always weaken in time: it is something that I, too, believed but someone did tell me I was wrong. I need to remember what they told me. As for the idea that old and sick people are the ones that are dying I read that more mothers and babies are dying in childbirth because of covid, so how do people feel about that? If people did just use their common sense I agree that legislation wouldn’t be necessary but I only have to see the way that some of my neighbours have behaved throughout the pandemic to realise that isn’t the case. My heart goes out to people who are having treatment for cancer and are having to worry about catching covid on top of everything else they’re having to deal with. And it’s surprising how many immune suppressed people there are. Covid isn’t just a cold if you’re diabetic or suffer from lupus or RA etc
December 22, 2021 at 11:24 #1573863Same problem with my neighbours.they really are sneaky and up to no good
Every time I watch them through my binoculars, they draw the curtains
December 22, 2021 at 12:19 #1573868Yes, I thought I’d get that sort of response from some people. If you want to think I’m some sort of miserable old bag who spends all day curtain twitching sobeit. I can assure you I’m not. At least I care about other people.

You might be surprised to hear that I agree with all of that.
But I think you’re confusing many people’s beliefs.
“Consequences of Lockdown” are indeed “huge”, but the point is the consequences of NO Lockdown are even huger. I am more or less satisfied with how this (English) government has had lockdowns and precautions. If I were in Scotland or Wales (although can understand their decisions) would not agree to their governments stronger measures. Can live with being in more danger than the average Brit (am diabetic) if that danger is a comparatively small one. That point has not been reached yet.
I certainly am not for keeping lockdowns going until Zero Covid. That indeed would be “only achievable at a cost which is not worth paying”. I don’t think many people are for that and is pure scaremongering by those who want less restrictions. Lockdowns should ONLY be used when there is a danger of health services, doctors surgeries and hospitals not being able to cope. This includes there being a danger (please note a “danger” and not a “probability”) of too many doctors and nurses being off work).
Precautions should be used when there is a good chance of too many essential workers being off work. Unfortunately when Lockdown is not in place “Precautions” are needed. People being “sensible” and using their own initiative sadly isn’t enough. “Sensible” sadly means different things to different people. There’d just be many many more Tank and Rickys.
Tank and Rickey’s views merely mean we have more restrictions than would’ve been the case, in order to help protect vulnerable people from them.
Value Is EverythingDecember 22, 2021 at 13:17 #1573882Good post Ian – last post of previous page.
Not sure about a referendum though. Tend to take too long and how would it be done safely? Although am 100% certain a referendum would be in favour of precautions.
Value Is EverythingDecember 22, 2021 at 13:52 #1573885I do think the civil libertarians are the ones making the most noise and the silent majority want to leave it to Whitty (probably more than Johnson, actually) to decide.
Could be wrong, though.
Sadly we will never know – there won’t be a referendum on this.

Could (that’s “could” and not “will”) “could” yet mean more doctors and nurses off work and fewer beds available in hospital. Depending on how much milder and how much more transmittable it turns out to be.
Hopefully we will get away without any more restrictions before Christmas

Ginge you have no idea if I’ve been jabbed or not, so please stop mentioning that I haven’t in your posts. Many thanks
December 22, 2021 at 14:49 #1573906Having no idea is seldom a dealbreaker round here.

The rest of us have been pretty open about our vaccine status. It seems to me that you’re doing your best to put other people off having the vaccine which, imo is totally wrong.
December 22, 2021 at 14:52 #1573909Only going by what you’ve said in numerous threads and posts, Tank.
Does this mean you have now got the jab?
Value Is EverythingDecember 22, 2021 at 14:53 #1573910The stalker stalked – just getting a coffee and mince pie before watching this unfold….
To be fair, he must be quite excited himself.
Has anyone here ever taken quite so much interest in him?

Tank has had the booster I know this 100% ( possibly under protest )
I can only confirm the record not the state of mind.
Madeira has been a more difficult nut to crack but hmmm I am getting there slowly sort of tickytocky with the Ricks. 2014/15 were very difficult traumatic years but pressure had been building from 2012/13. I’m a terrible snoop and this is not what these talking houses are about. It started as anonymous postings but my nose started itching back in 2001 and the itching has got steadily worse. Mea Culpa … birch me
December 22, 2021 at 15:30 #1573920Total bitch that I am I find it amusing the Tank has probably had the vaccine. Not to protect himself and other but so he can go racing. And now, certainly for a while, will not be able to go racing. Wondering as well if those people still going to pubs etc bother to do a LFT before they go?
December 22, 2021 at 16:16 #1573931Apart from Tank. I am glad to say that CAS and Clive both get what is happening
You guys have no clue
Wales and scotland are locking down and restricting freedoms for one reason only
They can 🐏🐏
I despair at your lilly livered approach and frankly what you get you deserve

December 23, 2021 at 06:23 #1574080Isn’t it strange that the majority of “essential workers” mentioned are in poorly paid jobs?
