December 26, 2021 at 07:52 #1574486I must confess to being a little curious to see what measures, if any, are introduced, and their duration.
It’s the art of the possible and the public appetite for restrictions, even ones warranted by the data, is undeniably waning.
I’m not much fussed either way, tbh.
If I can’t go out, I save yet more money for when I eventually can go out is the phlegmatic philosophy which has got me through this living nightmare so far.

December 26, 2021 at 09:11 #1574498And there won’t be anything in the shops to buy by that time, either.
December 26, 2021 at 09:18 #1574502Just stop it, both of you!
I mean, you’re not wrong – either of you – but I’m trying to think positive!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 26, 2021 at 09:23 #1574504If we hadn’t had the so called Freedom Day people would have continued to wear masks in public places and socially distance themselves from others. It was almost becoming a cultural thing anyway, as it is in Eastern countries. Then there wouldn’t have been the need for these constant stop start measures.
December 26, 2021 at 09:51 #1574508Very few people are going to want to put a mask on every time they go out for the rest of their life. Plenty of people are not doing it now, even when it is supposed to be mandatory in certain situations. I was on a train on Christmas Eve and would estimate at least 50% were unmasked. I doubt they all have medical exemptions.
December 26, 2021 at 09:58 #1574509I simply don’t get why people are so anti-mask. Wearing one is not exactly a major hardship, is it? It’s not as if you’re being asked to wear lead boots.
Besides, even if they don’t limit the spread of the virus (as many anti-maskers contend) they serve the purpose of covering up people’s ugly faces, which makes my excursions more tolerable.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 26, 2021 at 10:14 #1574513It is not natural for the human face to be covered up. I appreciate the “ugly” comment is light hearted up to a point – but conversely a lot of people find the sight of crowds of faceless people upsetting as well.
Lots of people find masks uncomfortable – notice how many people have them uselessly round their chins.
Even the most pro-mask study only claims they make a very marginal difference. A lot of people just do not buy the idea they are doing any good. They also know their chances of being fined or worse for not putting a mask on are minuscule. Supermarkets have openly said they are not going to expect their staff to act as unpaid law enforcement officers and potentially expose themselves to confrontation. Transport companies appear to be the same.
When this is the case, it is hardly surprising non-compliance is widespread.
December 26, 2021 at 11:24 #1574525Wouldn’t exactly say non-compliance is widespread, CAS. Seems to me most people are wearing one. Suspect it depends on what area of the country you’re in and whether it’s city or town… But yes it also depends on how and where masks are worn.
Went shopping in Lidl just before Christmas (after the latest changes). Vast majority of customers wearing masks. Staff split roughly 50 – 50. One bloke who seemed to be in charge of something (unmasked) stood fairly near me shouting to one one of his mates / employees who was also unmasked. Then this manager went fast walking up the isle – passed close to several customers before going through a staff only side door… Only to come out a few seconds later wearing a mask.

It is not natural for the human body to be covered up, either. Are you going to stop wearing clothes?
