So tomorrow’s 12.51 at Lingfield has a Gosden entry called Lanfranco named after, guess who. Will it ever end.
The more I know the less I understand.

The 1985 St Leger third?
November 17, 2023 at 14:51 #1670740Glad – thats what came to my mind.
Not a bad horse, 7th in the 2000g, 5th in the Derby, won the King Edward VII at Royal Ascot and finished 3rd in Princess of Wales at Newmarket to Petoski (who went on to win the King George next time out) before his St Leger 3rd.
November 17, 2023 at 15:31 #1670741Also won the Futurity as a 2yo and the Predominate before the Derby, LD.
November 17, 2023 at 16:26 #1670745Indeed – owned by Charles St George, a big chesnut with a big white blaze down his face.
Would have been a prime candidate for staying in training these days with all the G1 races dotted around Europe that don’t take as much winning.
He absolutely hacked up in the Predominate beating Phardante strangely enough
November 17, 2023 at 16:29 #1670746He wasn’t bad at Royal Ascot either under another Cauthen front running masterclass.
November 17, 2023 at 16:44 #1670749And, to complete our trip down Memory Lane, the 1984 Futurity:
November 17, 2023 at 17:57 #1670755Nice in an all our yesterdays kind of way.
Completely forgot it was Lester on him as a 2 yr old, 1984 was his last year as Cecil’s stable jockey – ironic that it was Cauthen (2nd here on Damister) that replaced him and the next season proceeded to win 4 of the 5 classics (the 1000g, Oaks, Derby and St Leger on Oh So Sharp & Slip Anchor respectively).
Can well imagine what Lester thought of all that, especially being that it would have been a 10th Derby win and would have meant a total English classic haul of 34.
Also, they really need to put the Futurity back to the round mile course….I know they wouldn’t have been able to this year as that part of the course was the part that was actually waterlogged – but for me it would be a better race back on the round course.
November 17, 2023 at 19:31 #1670763Seen a few of his offspring race at country tracks West Coast of NZ many years back , had a couple of seasons at stud there.
Looking through NZ studbook I see he had one named Dettori and one Frankie . Exported to Australia after , he would have long since disappeared .November 17, 2023 at 22:03 #1670775“So tomorrow’s 12.51 at Lingfield has a Gosden entry called Lanfranco named after, guess who. Will it ever end.”
Not as bad as the filly Lanfrankophile who sold at Keeneland for near bottom-dollar the other day

November 18, 2023 at 14:10 #1670894It was but I believe Gosden thinks he is a next season horse.

November 18, 2023 at 16:31 #1670929RP states “broke down, pulled up quick”. Hard to see clearly how bad the broke down was but RP analysis normally says if it was a bad outcome so fingers crossed.
