When a punter uses a quick slip to place a bet on greyhounds (real or virtual) the computer will automatically reject the bet if it’s deemed to have been placed after the ‘off-time’ of the race and stakes will be refunded. However, those punters who have seen their selection lose and unaware that their bet was ‘late’ will invariably not return to the counter to query whether their bet was deemed to be ‘late’ by the computer. As the quick slip does not indicate who wrote the bet because it’s just a case of placing a cross in a box and therefore staff will be unable to identify whose bet it was, I wonder what happens to all those refundable stakes? Does that money just stay in the bookie’s pocket or do they donate it to charity after a given period of time for reclaiming it has elapsed?

I wouldn’t know but anyone who places a bet on the off of a race or after the off always runs that risk and it’s the way it should be. Where the cards not available until 30 seconds before the off?

Most punters have been in the shop for at least 2 or 3 hours so pointless complaining about it after the event.

    IS

When the counter-clerks start calling the customers back to refund their ‘late’ bets on losers, then the above stance would be justified.
    Until then, it’s just hypocrisy.

Ahhh, many a punter has wondered what happens in that scenario, Ken.

Some bookies do tell you if you have not got the bet on in time…some don’t.

And where does the money go….in the same pot as the sleeper bets.
