Fist, the Gordon and Voltigeur are both over 12f

Alwaary has the best form in the race, and though JG thought he would have been a good thing for the Gordon Stakes (which Harbinger won) he also thought him good enough to take on the top older horses in the KG. He was never put in the race until the last 2f, but still showed enough speed to pass all but the 3 principals without being given a hard race when it became obvious what he had taken on.
He looks an out-and-out Cup horse for the future, but the lack of a Hamdan pacemaker suggest they think he’ll have enough speed for this.ps. Talking of race distances, can anyone shed any light on why the 5f handicap has had 80 yards added to the distance? It might not sound much, but it’s enough to make it a different test than normal.
August 17, 2009 at 23:21 #244400Harbinger was 75% fit at goodwood and won easily this is a step up in class but expect him to improve for the stronger pace
August 18, 2009 at 00:50 #244434Alwaary to win.Though i backed Harbinger last time.I think the form of the last race from my selection is very strong. And can beat the fave.

Bad move IMHO. His Eclipse 6th is possibly the best piece of form in the race, and the extra distance can only help. Massive danger

Love that one, OV.
He finishes 7l further behind Conduit than Alwaary did (Even thiugh Conduit is better over 12f than 10), and it’s "the best form in the race"?
August 18, 2009 at 04:28 #244469the best bet here probably a rev F/C Alwaary and Harbinger
August 18, 2009 at 09:47 #244475Monitor Closely is a handy measuring stick for this race, if he stays.
I like Harbinger’s powerhouse galloping finish, I like how he settled off a steady tempo and maintained his position when the pace quickened on the swing, I’m thoroughly impressed by his professional attitude on the job as well.
He is definitely a major contender for the middle-distance championships next year (which I will follow) but I’m not keen to back him as favourite right now.
Jukebox Jury will thrive over the extra quarter-mile and is my tip, with the hope that the pace isn’t too modest.
August 18, 2009 at 13:36 #244500This is a race to watch for the future. I think its a very good renewal of the Voltigeur and can easily see Father Time, Harbinger, Alwaary, Jukebox Jury going onto much better things next year (maybe the King George and Juddmonte will have some runners next year!). Even the other 3 are good horses.
August 18, 2009 at 18:01 #244533My fears have been realised.
Absolute snooze of a gallop and none of the key Leger players could match pace with the colt by a July Cup winner.
I’m ruling a line through this one.

August 18, 2009 at 18:19 #244537Mr Forecast seems to have stumbled across something. Monitor Closely is yet another big-priced winner that had the best (or only) course speed rating.

That was embarassing for racing fans and punters alike im glad i didnt have a bet
August 18, 2009 at 18:40 #244547Didn’t see the race, how did Jukebox Jury run?
August 18, 2009 at 18:52 #244552Early in the race I thought Harbinger either stumbled or ran into the back of one of the other horses, not sure what happened. Someone on this forum was very keen on Monitor Closely earlier in the season; can’t remember who it is but hope they were on him today.
August 18, 2009 at 18:58 #244554Father Time ran well in his first race for 2 months, I hope he runs in the Leger as well as Manifest.
I hope either of those or any AOB runner wins the Leger.
I do NOT want Godolphin.
