I wrote this to Sean Boyce at ATR on the ‘Get On’ show.
    (Sean agreed by the way)
Some months earlier I had written to ‘Enzo’ and expressed the same.

    Hi Sean,

I wrote before about how horses body weights should be made public to punters – I believe that this is most relevant to successful punting and that we here in the U.K are in the punting dark ages.
Such information is taken for granted and widely available in the far East – why don’t we get with the times and modernise?!

I pose the hypothetical question that maybe ‘Binocular’ has been running thus far with too much weight/condition – only to be turned out at Chelts spot on – now with what’s happening with his ‘will he – won’t he debacle’ – I wonder?!!! – As punters who are we to know – if his weight has been right in his past races this year – that is the key – we don’t!

Such information should not be kept for stable staff etc.

In this age of global racing it it imperative that we know of a horses ideal weight – before flying and when arriving in the foreign country to race – to see how much the travel has taken out of them – it just makes sense.

If keeping to a good weight is vital for a boxer (i.e. why the likes of Hatton is always at a disadvantage) then why is it not seen as important not in racing?

Just so to prove the body weight theory as being invaluable I’ve included ‘Sacred Kingdom’ to show how he is kept in prime condition with his weight never fluctuating too much compared to his rivals.

    Sacred Kingdon last four runs:
    1206 – 1st
    1208 – 1st
    1205 -1st
    1209 -2nd

    Happy Zero last four runs:

    1163 – 3rd
    1139 -2nd
    1143 -1st
    1167 -1st

I hope the above shows that it’s not just that ‘Sacred Kingdom’ is rated higher etc – but the weights show how he is in his prime and kept there for his races whilst his rivals go up and down dramatically.

Without this info how can any of us punt with a true conviction?

Why won’t racing for change bring this in? – Forget the gimmicks – give us facts!

    ———————————————————

Now today we should look through the careless chitter chatter as to why the improvement in form came about for – ‘Binocular’.

Yes the ground came good in his favour – but the way his status was handled in the run up to todays race is not – Henderson & McCoy be ashamed – very.

You have both helped to change the shape of betting on this race and the trainer has had his hand in another.

We as punters – deserve better – the people representing us on t.v. or in the press aren’t doing us any favors.

Side note: Sometimes hunches are better than studying form.

Mock if you will – but I backed ‘Binocular’ a long time ago when he was @ 6’s and – NO I never took the price!

    Second side note:

Now wouldn’t we all like to see the weights of ‘Kauto’ & ‘Imperial’ pre their Haddock runs? – which was really fully fit & wound up for that?

You choose odds on or odds against? – & please feel free to take the trainers word before you punt.

Let’s make some changes now – cos’ the old way ain’t working.

There’s been plenty of ‘thoughts’ on this subject here on TRF, too many some may think so the unwritten responses to your post may be something like ‘gawd not again’

Why don’t you try the ‘Search Forum’ facility using the keywords ‘weighing’ and ‘horses’ for starters

I believe that the result today should open up the topic for discussion again.
