Looked at this ones form today after i noticing it had won .Has run in 95 races including today and 83 of them have been chases.
How many other horse out there with such an iron constitution .January 23, 2011 at 16:14 #337394I think if you look up a lot of the Michael Chapman and David Evans inmates, you’ll see a lot to rival old Kinkeel. Feeling Peckish has just turned 7, as had already seen the racecourse 86 times.
One of my own personal favourites is Orpen Wide (only 9). He has won 19 races, from 5f at Southwell to a Novice Chase at Ascot, he has had an amazing 154 starts under rules, unfortunately he appears to have lost his form completely now.
Transfixed only just turned 4, has had an astounding 59 races already, winning 7.
Palacegate Touch, the 33 time winner (wonderful old boy he was) raced 207 times, and Sharp Hat I’ve just looked up ran 217 times, can anyone beat that?January 23, 2011 at 18:16 #337410I think the record is held by Hiblaze, who ran in 406 races, winning 79 of them.
January 24, 2011 at 02:28 #337463Elkridge was known as the "Iron Horse of Steeplechasing". He won 31 of 123 starts, 26 of them stakes, and fell only once. He served as a lead pony in his golden years.
http://www.pedigreequery.com/elkridgeThe Guinness World Record for most wins by any TB goes to the Puerto Rican mare Chorisbar, who won 197 of 324 starts, with 86 places and 31 shows.
February 14, 2011 at 16:18 #340648You can’t compare the number of flat races with steeplechases. Most steeplechasers run just a few times per year. The world record holder for steeplechases run is Blazing Dawn who ran 104 chases, retiring in August 2000, but not completing in the last 6. Feeling Peckish has run 44 chases as is only 7, so has a shot at the record if staying sound. Kinkeel has now run 85 chases and only needs 20 more chase runs to set a new world record.

All of these starts were steeplechases, and he completed all but one.February 15, 2011 at 09:51 #340720Yes, Elkridge was a legend, extraordinarily durable, especially when you think quite a high proportion of his races would have been on a firm surface.
Perhaps the closest equivalent to him in Britain would be Crudwell, who won 39 chases, 4 hurdle traces and 7 flat races from 108 total starts during the 1950s, that’s 50 victories in all.
He was a class act, winning the Welsh Grand National and the Kim Muir.

Elkridge, I take it, was a US horse born 1938?
I see he ran 123 chases.
Many thanks.February 15, 2011 at 14:54 #340757Here are some of his big race wins.

He apparently loved sugar-coated doughnuts. Perhaps that is the secret to his sturdiness? - AuthorPosts
