Will Kingston Hill be running in the coolmore colors next season? being owned by Derek Smiths son im 90% sure he will be.
October 26, 2013 at 18:58 #456323I don’t mind if he does or doesn’t as long as he continues to give me as much pleasure as he has this season I loved his sire and i’m already totally hooked on Kingston Hill too.
October 26, 2013 at 20:31 #456330I think not. With his own horse and trainer he is free to say and do as he likes without the constraints of Coolmore getting in his way.
October 26, 2013 at 20:38 #456333I belive that Hingston Hill is a retirement community .Wonder if the younger Smith has plans for the Coolmore "lads". Or is it just another JP project?
October 27, 2013 at 08:01 #456355I would doubt if he is at Ballydoyle next year. Can’t see the point, Coolmore are interested in stallion prospects and Paul Smith does seem some way involved with the group. Therefore, why move the horse from a trainer who already knows him.
October 27, 2013 at 11:28 #456371Whatever he does next year I think I’ve got a new favourite horse. Haven’t been so taken with a flat horse since Sea the Stars [although I can only think of him as a 10f horse?]
October 27, 2013 at 15:31 #456387How does yesterdays race stand in relation to other recent winners ?
Looked a poor race to me in testing conditions.
Winner’s a talented horse though, just like his dad.
October 27, 2013 at 17:16 #456394Here’s Timeform’s summing up. I daresay they will have more on it next week
Held in the highest regard by Roger Varian, the Newmarket trainer and owner Paul Smith took the decision to supplement the unbeaten colt at a cost of £17,500 earlier in the week and that faith was rewarded with a most impressive success.
Racing in mid-division through the early stages, he was asked to quicken well over a furlong out by Andrea Atzeni and the response was quite immediate, with the Mastercraftsman colt lengthening to stretch emphatically clear in the closing stages, beating Johann Strauss by four and a half lengths.
Altruistic was third for trainer-jockey Johnny Murtagh, but the well-fancied Century was one of the first one of the market principals to be beaten.
Kingston Hill can presently be backed at 9.6 for the 2014 Epsom Derby.
Italian-born Atzeni, a rising star of the weighing room, said: "He’s a dream horse to ride really, he settles and is so laid-back.
"He’s a top-class horse and he’s definitely the best I’ve been on so far."
Varian, who is finishing the season strongly having seen his stable hampered by a virus, said: "We were looking forward to what improvement there was from him and he’s the first colt to win to win a Group One for us. It’s been fillies before.
"He’s always looked good and been a good mover. If you look at him, he’s a great model.
"We have so many horses who can do special things at home but disappoint on the track. He looked good at home, but I tend to sit on the fence and be pessimistic.
"Until they do it on the track I won’t hype a horse up.
"We thought he might make his debut earlier, but the horses weren’t right in August. What is encouraging is what he’s done in six weeks and he has the shape to be better next year.
"We’ll have to see how he winters and what he’s like in the spring. People have said is he a 10-furlong, mile-and-a-half horse, but he has the pace for a mile and travels so well.
"He has good acceleration and will be in everything. We’ll have a good eye on the Guineas. Whether he runs before or goes straight there or bypasses the Guineas we’ll have to wait and see."
October 27, 2013 at 18:02 #456401If the 2,000 Guineas and The Derby were run over the straight mile on soft ground at Doncaster you’d want to be on.
But it rarely gets that soft at Newmarket or Epsom.
Will he be as effective on faster ground?
Did the going accentuate his winning distance as it surely did with talented but ultimately far-from-great Celtic Swing all those years ago?
And was it a Group One in name only as, like so many renewals of this race, there was more future potential than pattern form in the book on show?
I still like Toormore and Australia more.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 27, 2013 at 18:43 #456411I doubt very very much that J Magnier would be interested in the slightest with this horse..yes hes done well and his father stands for Coolmore however on Coolmores website like other big breeders Coolmore gained a victory in that their sire (mastercraftsman) has had another group 1 winner which will put the stud fee up…..the horse though is only proven on soft. Were he to win group races on decent ground next year then its a very definite possibility.Coolmore must have a few that they rank above him..so unless he was proven on good ground he probably wont appeal..at the moment .and the race was a very shabby affair nearly 9 secs slower than standard ..so time will tell just how good this horse is but 6/1 2nd fav for derby is laughable
October 27, 2013 at 19:08 #456415I think it could be costly to assume this horse won’t be at least as good on decent ground – perhaps considerably better. He did not look to be enjoying it yesterday, although he did the job. And he does not have that ‘classic’ high knee action associated with horses who excel in deep ground.
October 27, 2013 at 19:35 #456419I agree about the ground
9.4 ?! He’s never going to win the Derby
