A sprinter by a sire with a stamina index of 13.9 who’s won over 7 furlongs and who ran a faster time in the Lightning Stakes than Miss Andretti did is not going to stay 5 furlongs? Have you seen the way this horse runs?

The faster they go the better.

Yes, I have seen the way Nicconi runs and I stand by my opinion.
I’m quite happy to be proved wrong though.
June 15, 2010 at 01:22 #300642One would hope the English have realised the Australian breed is a league above in the sprinter’s realm, and wouldn’t dare try to ignore/take on a horse deemed just as fast as any of Scenic Blast, Miss Andretti or Takeover Target.
Afraid not.
If he had been perhaps half as consistent as Takeover Target or Miss Andretti, he would be evens or shorter. But this is Nicconi, and despite the complete dominance of Australian sprinters recognised globally, if he runs like he did where he finished behind Master O’Reilly of all horses, how can he possibly win? Many excuses have flowed when he’s lost – to the point where he’s now a horse solely able to win at 5f first up in some people’s view. Fortunately today is exactly that for Nicconi and the theory will be tested.

I know what your saying but it really is worth mentioning that here in aus they often run older horses out of race distance to get a bit of spark into them and MOR had not raced for a while prior to that race and lack of proper prep races made them run MOR in that race. Also it is just that Nicconi is a better 1000mtr horse than at 1200mtrs…even the mighty Lochsong found it hard at 1200mtrs. Is Nicconi as good as Andretti or Take Over? Def not in my opinion but prob as good as we could send giving the sprinters we have at the mo…

Don’t know that I’d be wanting to back a favourite that is inconsistent, racing in a strange country, and over a track that is very different to those on which has shown his best form.
Had he not been injured in the Nunthorpe, Kingsgate Native would probably be on a 4 timer today, has the clear beating of most of those closest to him in the betting, and has had the sort of prep you’d expect for one his stable’s better horses. He’ll do for me.June 15, 2010 at 07:34 #300661These comments are interesting – if we’re talking of the ‘best’ and taking a ‘Benchmark’….

FRANKIE IN AWE OF AUSSIE ACE
By Tom Peacock, Press Association Sport
Frankie Dettori believes it will take a smart performance to defeat his King’s Stand Stakes mount Nicconi.
"
"He has come from a different part of the world and flown for 24 hours."That’s a big deal, but if he runs his race he’ll take all the beating."
Is Nicconi as good as Andretti or Take Over?
I’d say that your opinion is valid M&P!

mmm…he’s fav for this but the horse that beat him giving weight (Ok – it was over 7f) – (Fravashi) is a double carpet for the Golden Jubilee!
Can’t be going or looking too good on the gallops with Frankie on ‘Fleeting’ in that can he??…
June 15, 2010 at 10:37 #300725Anyone done a 100% book on this race?
How does yours compare?Kingsgate Native 3/1
, Nicconi 9/2,
Equiano 7/1
,
Markab 17/2
, Total Gallery 10/1,
Borderlescott 12/1
, Gold Trail 18/1,
Blue Jack 22/1
, Amour Propre 25/1, Mister Mannanan 100/1, Spin Cycle 500/1, Bould Mover 2000/1.
Doesn’t technically add up to 100% but there’s stuff like Nicconi 19% (not 18.2%). Figures in bold are horses currently available at longer odds.

If there’s one area that Nicconi seems to be very consistent it’s first up after a break over five furlongs. He’s won when held up over six furlongs against Gr1 horses at Randwick so the Ascot 5f is well within his range. The Hayes camp have a long history of winning Gr1 races when adding head gear for the first time. David’s father Colin was a specialist at it. Plenty of speed engaged for this fellow to aim at late in the contest.
Nicconi – Kingsgate Native – Total Gallery ….. the current market is correct for mine.

Hard to oppose Frankie who seems to be very confident.
Most disappointing sprinter last yaer must be Amour Propre a horse Henry Candy reckons is one of the best he has ever trained.
He’s a huge price so I’m having a quid or two on Frankie for a saver and fiving
Amour Propre
one more chance to prove he’s as good as the man claims.
June 15, 2010 at 13:20 #300784I’d make Spin Cycle shorter than 500/1 out of that list, Ginger. He put up his best ever performance lto.
edit: Definitely not saying he will win, but a RPR of 114 puts him within spitting distance of winning a (poor) G1 sprint.
June 15, 2010 at 13:40 #300800Good -fm looks to be the ground 2day. Spin cycle e-w at 33s.
June 15, 2010 at 13:57 #300820A cracking renewal, Nicconi will do for me.
June 15, 2010 at 14:09 #300829Fair play to Equiano. He crossed, led and dominated. Great win.

Well done Equiano and all the Hills team!

M&P – your opinion was not only valid but very telling in it’s honesty…

Not saying for a minute he would have won today but Frankie was stopped in his tracks at a crucial stage and had to switch losing precious momentum…..Nicconi is much better than we saw today and is a must for the notebook.
