newyork, Im not saying there isnt a possibility that your speculation has some truth to it, its a cynical view but it had crossed my mind. my point is tho it is just that, speculation. there is always the possibility that thehorse is genuinely not at the top of his game, after all what to connections care, theyve already sold him to the sheikh!

I would of thought 12f at Ascot would suit much better than 10f at Sandown on drying ground? I’d be surprised if they don’t run.

Shurely, that "of" should be "have"? :(

Authorised looks an unlikely runner now given his big drift on Betfair.

With Authorized now officially out of the KG surely the HRA under their own new legislation have to investigate for insider trading. theres been doubt over his running since the eclipse and yet last night his price shot up on betfair and this morning hes declared a non-runner. smacks of insider info to me.

This morning’s news is further confirmation of the decline of the King George – and the Pattern.

The Leger has become derided in many circles. Derby winners no longer run there. Now the top three year olds appear to be avoiding the Ascot mid-summer highlight in preference for the Arc.

Top quality horses – like Dancing Brave – can do both, so the tests do not have to be mutually exclusive.

Action ought to be taken by the authorities to make the race internationally attractive once more. If Ascot can no longer attract the home horses, then they have to spread wings.

Is it an entry fee issue? The course itself? The fragility of the modern breed? It’s sad, I know that.

Maybe Peter Chapple-Hyam has made the correct decision. Looks like the Irish Champion Stakes of tthe Juddmonte next for Authorized.

Looking at my Racing Post calendar, I notice that July has a photograph of Dylan Thomas. Prophetic maybe?

They’ve had runners from Japan, the US and South Africa in recent years so I think they’re trying the international route and getting some results.

Fact is, it’s a very tough race that most winners seem to have a hard time recovering from.

The King George was once considered as prestigious as the Arc, in my opinion.

The decline of the race should not be blamed on the lack of high quality 3YOs participating in the event. It’s the absence of high-class older horses staying in training that’s the problem.

Authorized has more to gain by running over an inadequate 10F against proven, high class horses than in the King George which has a distinct lack of quality to it. It’s always been my opinion that PCH’s main aim after the Derby was always going to be the Arc. The Juddmonte would have always been my choice because it is approx. six weeks after the Eclipse and six weeks before the Arc – timing is everything.

The Juddmonte seems to attract high class foreign raiders, too. It seems to be the ‘cool’ race to win in recent years.

Motivator all over again. Whats the betting he gets turned over in the Irish Champion then finishes a gallant second to an improving french 3yo.

They should keep him over 12f in my opinion. Unless of course its the Sheik pulling the strings and wants to create a stronger stallion profile. It’ll backfire I believe.

His only victory over a mile came in heavy ground against inferior opponents. The Dante was hardly a strong event over 10f so I think he has a lot to prove over that distance. Why not win G1’s over a mile and a half rather than coming up against quicker horses over 10f? Or why didn;t they run him in the guineas rather than the Dante? Who knows…

It hasn’t suffered from a lack of high-class older horses recently; Hurricane Run, Heart’s Cry, Electrocutionist, Azamour, Bago, Doyen, Sulamani, Falbrav, Nayef, Golan, Fantastic Light etc. all ran in just the last 5 years alone.

On the 3yo front, only two have run in it in the three renewals since Alamshar won it.

While purists would like to see him run in the King George rather than an Irish Champion / Juddmonte, wouldn’t running Authorized in a ‘glorified’ Group1 like this years renewal of the King George be the easy option?

Isn’t the harder option running the horse over 10F (where he has something to prove) against the likes of Dylan Thomas, Alexandrova, Excellent Art, a possible rematch with Notnowcato and George Washington, Peeping Fawn, Teofilo, Ramonti, Soldier of Fortune (over 10F) and foreign raiders such as Manduro and Asiatic Boy?

In modern racing, the more prestigious races are run over 10F rather than 12F – the Dubai World Cup, Eclipse, Juddmonte, Irish Champion, Dubai Champion, Breeders Cup Classic etc. This distance brings together the top milers, taking their chance at staying the extra two furlongs and the top middle distance performers coming back in distance.

    Bosranic,

Of the horses you’ve quoted there most will be running in either fillies events or the sussex stakes. Notnowcato and Dylan Thomas or GW are possible runners but I can;t see the rest being there. If GW lines up in the sussex and DT wins the KG, who will he be running against in the Irish Champion?

"Glorified G1" That says it all I guess…..

Such are the laws of competition that your victories are usually only gained over inferior opponents. Superior opponents tend to beat you. :)

    Alright DJ,

I’m not allowed to swear but in truth most of the field (With the exception of eagle mountain who obviously doesn’t like heavy ground) are rubbish. Few of the field will win at group level.

    You know what I mean….

I would have loved Authorized to run in the KG, but I’d like it just as much if he meets Notnowcato and George Washington again at York or Leopardstown. Wouldn’t that be something ?

All three will be hoping Manduro doesn’t show up to spoil the party.
