Well hopefully that will be that and they’ll see sinse and aim him for the top 2 mile races.
I know the trainer does ok but I have never liked the way he goes about things and this is just another episode that makes me think if he were mines he’d be at 7 Barrows.
October 31, 2010 at 21:01 #325653The horse i like the look of is
Cooldine
and i can see him doing a Florida Pearl for his owner Violet O Leary, this fellow is a specialist 3 Miler who has a high cruising speed, his jumping is solid and as an 8yo is still capable of improving,he also handles any ground,i have backed him down from 34"s to 24"s on the machine!
Just shows i"m only human,
Cooldine
now trades at 120 on the machine and that doesn"t look good! Still had another fiver on though!

It doesn"t get any better! Today
Cooldine
traded at
150
on the machine,i managed to get a whole £3 on! Clutching at straws and that! He does have an entry next weekend though so we"ll see!
October 31, 2010 at 23:13 #325671Clutching at more than straws Sir!
Kauto will make it 5 in a row, get on now, prior to him winning at Down Royal next week!
November 1, 2010 at 04:06 #325680You can forget both Sizing Europe and Imperial Commander. Long Run needs to improve his jumping. Nacarat should run well but if Kauto is anywhere near his best its a one horse race.
November 6, 2010 at 18:10 #326574Kauto Star; perfect preparation.
November 7, 2010 at 19:00 #326888What a day yesterday – joy for Kauto, such bad luck for Ruby.
The King George wont happen without Ruby on board, he & Kauto are a team. Ive been looking forward to it since last Boxing Day, but maybe now Clive Smith should just retire him? His achievements will never be forgotten and it would be so sad if he lost the King George and without Ruby, sadly, I think he might.
I speak as one of Kautos biggest fans and would be bitterly disappointed not to see him run again, but his welfare is the most important thing, after Cheltenham his luck mustve surely run out if god forbid he fell again.
Undoubtedly AP would be brilliant but I just feel without Ruby Kauto wont be the same and I am worried for him.
If he does race, I pray I am wrong and will be there cheering him on and willing him home safe.November 7, 2010 at 20:37 #326902It is a concern, isn’t it? I feel that, given that there could be a chance that the great horse may be near to going beyond the point of equilibrium whoever gets the ride may be handed a ‘poisoned chalice’. Ruby possibly makes Kauto Star look an easier ride than he actually is. Difficult times and decisions ahead, but others are paid to make those decisions, not us. Lets hope they make the right ones, and lets not condemn them if they get it wrong. Fortune favours the brave.
November 11, 2010 at 22:26 #327573Personally I love to see Kauto win it again but come on fellow punters surely its gonna go to imperial commander he was awsome in the gold cup, granted a clear round he could be the 1 winning by 10 lenths . 10/1
what a brilliant price for a gold cup winnerNovember 12, 2010 at 07:51 #327627Thing is, Imperial Commander doesn’t really go on right-handed tracks. It’s also worth pointing out that his only wins outside of Cheltenham were an Irish Point-to-Point and a novices hurdle at Newcastle.

So don't run, just like the others always do
November 13, 2010 at 15:59 #327799Having watched Long Run’s performance in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham, my initial thoughts on him being possibly the one who could steal Boxing Day’s Crown from Kauto Star may have to be radically revised.
Either Long Run needed it ( I doubt it ) or he needs further ( probably ), or maybe Kempton will suit him much better, or ( the view I am inclining more towards ) – that the horse’s true ability and potential is somewhat impaired by his less talented amateur pilot.

Put it this way; if Nicky Henderson doesn’t put his foot down and insist Sam Waley-Cohen is replaced by a professional and more able jockey at Kempton, then he can kiss bye bye to any thoughts of Long Run winning the 2011 King George V1 Chase.

Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
November 13, 2010 at 16:05 #327802I wonder would Henderson be tempted to give Long Run a few runs over hurdles?
He’s only a 5yo after all. Can’t see him winning any of the big graded chases this season with his indifferent jumping against the older and more experienced horses.
November 13, 2010 at 17:11 #327804The horse isn’t good enough,
at the moment.
Yes, he is open to a lot of improvement as he is a young horse, but he should be winning races like today if he is going to be top class.
He looked like being pushed along from a fair way out, and to his credit, kept on gamely. He may need further, but at the moment, he isn’t good enough.
How much is Sam WC hindering his racing? ? ? Im not sure, i dont think he did a lot wrong today, it would be an interesting comparison to see what Long Run ran and jumped like with someone else on his back. His jumping isn’t the best, now is that rider error, or simply the horse not being good enough at his jumps.
There is no way that Nicky Henderson will give someone else the leg up, the Waley-Cohen’s own the horse, their son rides him, i’d imagine they would move the horse to a different yard if they were to be told that their son was not to be given the ride on their horse, i just cant see it.
November 13, 2010 at 18:36 #327814How can anyone point the finger at Sam? The horse just doesn’t jump very well, nothing to do at all with the jockey. They should send this horse for the World Hurdle.
Kauto trimmed to as low as Evens in places, top price 6/4. Kauto races, the only way he loses is if he falls.

Clearly the stable see the horse as the problem, not the jockey, as they’ve had him under tutelage with Yogi Bresner to improve his jumping and to get him to arch his back. That they’ve failed became evident as soon as the horse breasted the first 2 fences.
Maybe they will put him back to hurdles, but the horse has such promise, that may be a retrograde step. He certainly needs to learn to jump faster, and French steeplechases and our novice chases aren’t necessarily the best schooling ground.
Perhaps a drop back in trip to 2m, the time-honoured British way of teaching embryonic staying chasers to fence at speed, might be in order?November 13, 2010 at 23:10 #327843Well, the only thing Long Run had in common with Kauto today was the noseband – and he doesn’t look as good in it, either!!
After Paddy Brennan’s ‘I know when I put my leg over Imperial Commander that he is the best horse in the country’ speech, Paul Nicholls tweeted "Kauto Star and Denman had sleepless nights. What A Friend slept like a dog, though’.
Better get the Red Bull ready for Kauto in the morning after that performance!!
November 15, 2010 at 20:49 #328131Ye you cant blame cohen. The horse travelled brilliant he just lacked that bit of class and i cant see further bringing the best out of him, But i reckon he could be great over 2 miles. Would be nice to see him try it again.
