This years King George intrigues me more so than usual as i believe it will see the demise of possibly the greatest King George horse ever, Kauto Star. Obviously i am an isolated opinion as he is only 2/1 to win it for the 5th time, unfortunately time catches up with all of us and i can see him being retired after it,Win or lose!Kauto defineately wont be going to Cheltenham afterwards as it will be one test too many,i hope connections allow him a worthy retirement. So who can take over King Kautos mantle,Somersby, will be targeted for it and looks tailor made,Long Run,his feltham victory alone puts him on the short list, Planet of Sound will have his supporters but i”m not one of them,Albertas Run given good ground and his new catch me if you can tactics has to be respected. The horse i like the look of is Cooldine and i can see him doing a Florida Pearl for his owner Violet O Leary, this fellow is a specialist 3 Miler who has a high cruising speed, his jumping is solid and as an 8yo is still capable of improving,he also handles any ground,i have backed him down from 34″s to 24″s on the machine! If Kauto does show his best days are behind him i reckon Big Bucks will be aimed for the Gold Cup and any double figure prices left will dissapear in a puff!

You’re sick Demise your ar$e the horse is only 10 years old……Kuato himself thinks he’s still a 6 year old and that’s what counts. I’ve had me usual Xmas expenses cover bet again….geez! how many free Xmas’s have I had from him now? 4 it must be and I fully expect it to be 5…….Kauto Star’s last run ,IMO, like Arkle will be at Kempton only he will go out on a winning note Boxing Day 2012 then Big Bucks can get a shot…… until then Kauto still rules OK!!!!
Somersby take over Kauto’s mantle? I want some of whatever it is you’re smokin.
August 21, 2010 at 05:27 #313953I suppose one of the problems with Cooldine is that there don’t seem to be many Irish horses that come over for the King George, what with the Lexus at Leopardstown. Is there any indication that he would come over?
August 21, 2010 at 15:09 #314035Willie & Archie O’Leary were keen to run him in it last year but because the horse had a few niggly problems and most of Willie’s were slow coming to hand he missed his prep in the John Durkan at Punchestown. They decided there was no point going over to England without a run so they went for the Lexus instead where he needed the run.
If they get a run into him before early December, there’s every chance they’ll let him take his chance in the King George. Having Kempes in the yard this year muddies the waters though.
August 21, 2010 at 15:32 #314045Thanks, IC. You’re my favourite lurker.

There’s no reason to suspect that Kauto Star isn’t as good as he was – indeed, he recovered astoundingly well from a shocking mistake to still be in contention in the Gold Cup – and on last year’s performance alone the 9/4 currently available is ridiculous.
Long Run is the only horse capable of tailing Kauto Star around Kempton, but even he isn’t within a stone of him.
If there’s a bet that will pay for Christmas, Kauto Star to win the King George is it.

Now then Mr Fist,i am the first to recognise your loyalty to
Kauto Star
and the rewards you have reaped at Xmas from him as he has done my
Albertas run
every time they have met but there comes a time when the King of the Jungle is kicked off his throne by a young upstart and this year there are a lot of young pretenders queing up to have a go at King Kauto.I"m afraid after almost 80 miles of top class racing his time has come to bow out! No doubt the same thing will happen to me oneday a young
thm
looks fav!

Gerald its called the
Florida Pearl
scenario!

AJ,
Cooldine
was never right last season, this fellow travels like a dream and has plenty of speed, his jumping is fine and 3 miles around Kempton is perfect! If he turns up he will be single figures so i am happy with the risk of my big prices! Exciting race this year,5 King georges for Kauto??? Nah it wont happen i"m afraid!
August 21, 2010 at 19:35 #314085Can’t say I’ve given the race a lot of thought but Kauto Star is obviously a stone better at Kempton than at Haydock or Cheltemham. That said I’ve never been convinced he’s nearly as good as his reputation.
If Long Run wins The King George I’ll eat his dung.
Who does that leave?
It’s too sharp for Pandoarama, the course is not for Imperial Commander, nor Denman. I doubt if the race is on An Siorrac’s aganda.
Cooldine or Joncol, maybe? Weird Al? Why not? The race and track might suit Diamond HarryAugust 21, 2010 at 19:45 #314087Cooldine or Joncol, maybe? Weird Al? Why not? The race and track might suit Diamond Harry
Weird Al
is not a King George horse,
Joncol
will rule in Ireland over Xmas,
Diamond Harry
and
Bensalem
both have Hennessey written all over them,so that leaves
Cooldine
Chelters!
August 21, 2010 at 19:57 #314088Of course it’s quite possible Sizing Europe could throw a spanner in the works, he was probably best at 20 furlongs last year, travels well, jumps superbly. I could see him get the 3 miles at Kempton

Interesting Chelters but connections have one race lined up for this fellow and its over 2 miles at Cheltenham!
Forpadydeplasterer
is a horse who i would love to see over 3 miles too!
August 21, 2010 at 20:59 #314097Connections have said that the KG is up for consideration for Forpady

Me and 24,000 other people were lucky to witness a piece of history at Kempton last year for a meer £35 which wont ever be repeated again, I’ll be going along this year to cheer Kauto Star on again becaus he is the only genuine group 1 class chaser in last 40 years and its a privallidge to see him put the smack down on all these fake up and coming run arounds who should be competing at Wolverhampton over 2 miles in a 0-90.
COME ON KAUTO!!#

August 21, 2010 at 21:12 #314101Tom Cooper has said that ForPaddy will be stepped up, and will run in the KG. He looks like he was outpaced in top class 2m/2m 1/2 grade 1’s stepping him up in trip could be the making of him.
