Very tempting to bet one early in this, but given the choices, it wasn’t easy.

Duffle Coat is a horse I really like over the bigger obstacles, and I’m sure he wins a big handicap this year, but stablemate, and real favourite of mine, The Goffer is also in there. He ran well in it last year, and will come here a few pounds lower this time.

Janidil another regular, but not sure this is his race. I’ll no doubt bet him regularly again this year.

Of those at the top of the market, I think this is perfect for Thecompanysergeant. He’s another who’s got a decent prize in him, and I’d have him as a solid contender along with Moonovercloon.

Of those at bigger prices, I’d say that Busselton and Good Time Jonny are really overpriced, while Blazer winner Battleoverdoyen is too big, even allowing for the rise in the weights

Also at big prices, and representing new yards are Churchstonewarrior, Embittered, and Flanking Maneuver. They’ve got questions to answer, but I’d give them a squeak if the switch does them good. Embittered particularly interesting, and if this doesn’t go his way, I’d say he’s an interesting one for The Munster National

I really like Thecompanysargeant and Duffle Coat, but I’d be betting The Goffer anyway, and he’s the early bet, as I couldn’t see him being near 20’s on the day

Lovely race. Always feels a bit like the start of the season.

I also like The Goffer at that price. He is on a good weight and the ground shouldn’t be too soft this time.

    The Goffer 20/1.

Not had a bet yet but it will be DUFFLE COAT when I do.

12-1 at the moment but hopefully will drift.

Topped up the 33’s on The Goffer, and I’ll go EW once Sky no doubt go the extra place. Think the 33’s is actually quite ominous, but I’m on now

Duffle Coat or Thecompanysargeant will probably be backup

Chemical Energy has run twice since his decent run in this last year; a write off in the Grand National and a promising run over shorter in the Galway Plate. He’s now a pound lower than last year and ten pounds better off with last years winner who was ten lengths up on Chemical Energy at the line. Conditions look more suitable this time and while I can never really trust what Gordon Elliot sends to these races with different targets in mind; I can’t let him go at what is a backable price.

I’m another vote for The Goffer at the prices. I’m not convinced he’s a particularly strong stayer, but this seems achievable.

Seems to be a gamble going on with Chemical Energy this eve. Generally, 9s,10s… with just 2 bookies offering 11/1.

What an early season cracker with many class horses.
I’ll go with the sole Mullins entry Horantzau D’airy at 12s WIN.
A nice € 200k pot over three miles and yet no British participant.

Real quality renewal , last year was a no show for The Real Whacked but to early not to think he can still win some good races , if he gets in a rhythm then he could put a load of these right out of there comfort zone , playing e.w with Zanahyir who looks the better of the quality novices ( not sure Flooring is a natural jumper ) I reckon Elliott has been trying by him along quietly for this

HDLG, why do you think he’s brought him along quietly? he finished 2nd in the Galway Plate a more valuable race at 13/2?

Can see the Chemical Energy shouts, had looked at him but i’ve certainly missed any nice prices.

On Solitary Man + Horantzau D’airy.

SM- he’s been a horse i had in mind for staying chases for a long while given his trainer. I think a big field handicap will be his bag. Basically the same sentiments with HD.

    GL ALL.

No probs Ruby , I’m going off the last run Jack which looked a nice prep , he ran a cracker in the Plate and Kennedy keeps the faith , he’s just 7 and def looks a more natural chaser than Flooring , I think he’s a cracking e.w play but just my opinion , I’m actually hoping we see something from The Real Whacker , if he can put his jumping together the handicappers in here are going to struggle , as I said for Sept this a cracker with some quality horses

Decided to have a small bet on Desertmore House. Winner of this last year, only up by 9 pounds and given a different approach this year.

Thought Desertmore House was a Grand National horse in the making last year. He didn’t fulfil them expectations last year but the still time for that.
