Hewick at 16s for me (added to my Frodon e/w silly bet
)Although the going is decent at the mo, there is light rain forecast for most of Xmas day in the Sunbury area.
December 24, 2023 at 16:20 #1674883The Nicholls runners did not perform well yesterday. I like Bravemansgame but too many doubts now.
December 24, 2023 at 16:45 #1674888Frodon 50s EW 3 places and Hewick 16s EW 3 places….
Good luck everybody.
December 24, 2023 at 17:32 #1674892Couldn’t find a bet in the race but gut feeling tells me Allaho’s still showing them plenty at home to come here rather than find another penalty kick back home. I’ll be backing Allaho for the Gold Cup at 33s instead I think. I think if he wins this they’ll roll the dice at his age, no fun going Ryanair again when the owners have the defending champ anyway.
December 24, 2023 at 19:41 #1674899Would Allaho get up the hill ? , if he goes off like clappers it could help GDC …. and Rambler , Nicholls very bullish about BMG for Tues , seems he did a great piece of work last week , he’s going to go close
December 24, 2023 at 20:00 #1674900I wouldn’t back Allaho at any price in a Gold Cup. At his peak he wouldn’t have got a Gold Cup trip that’s why he ran in Ryanairs.
Keeping the faith with BMG here. He has a question or two to answer, but they all do.
December 24, 2023 at 21:26 #1674904Can’t see Allaho running in the Gold Cup – he stays 3m well enough but plenty of other great horses have (the likes of Pendil, Wayward Lad, Florida Pearl & One Man) and then found that additional 2F up that hill a step beyond them. Have a feeling A Plus Tard is the owners true Gold Cup horse of their three.
The Ryanair is the obvious option for Allaho especially given injury prevented him from a third straight win last year and I actually think a stiff 2m 4F is his optimum trip. Envoi Allen was an able deputy for the owners last year but all thing being equal, had Shishkin not tried to take the 3rd last home with him that day, he would have won the race.
Pretty certain had Allaho not been injured he would have dealt with that field a lot easier than Envoi Allen did and to my mind Envoi Allen always comes up short when meeting the very top G1 horses.
Just hope something near the 2021 Allaho turns up Tuesday because if he does, we could see something a bit special.
December 25, 2023 at 13:00 #1674923Getting a good ground King George is a novelty, the first for 7 years, makes it a bit more of a speed test than in previous years – I just wonder how many will come back in lamenting that the ground was too quick and they would have preferred softer ground.

Merry X-Mas to all.
December 25, 2023 at 16:13 #1674936All bar the winner will be bemoaning the unseasonable unhelpful ground… And Nicky will explain that the reason Shishkin wouldn’t start was that he sensed his lack of a previous outing without an underfoot cushion would have been almost suicidal…
December 25, 2023 at 18:18 #1674946BMG out to 11/4 and I wouldn’t be surprised, if Shishkin would end up JF.
December 25, 2023 at 18:32 #1674948If he jumps off and jumps the first 2 we’ll I’d say he will be joint fav in running
If he jumps the 2nd last in touch I’d expect him to win
The question is can he really be arsed anymore?
If he runs like he did at ascot against pic dorhy then only allaho could stop him from winnning
This race is a riddle
December 25, 2023 at 18:48 #1674950Agree with that, FF.
Never seen a more open, but apparently uncompetitive KG in which everything could happen. Even the three higher priced horses could fight out a finish.
I’m quite sure Hewick will go off at single-digit odds. The ground will suit, the trip as well and yet he might fight for minor prize money.December 25, 2023 at 21:39 #1674954It has been whittled down to an intriguing race, question marks against all of the protagonists. The only thing trying to put me off Shiskin is King George winners pulling it off first time out.
The more I know the less I understand.
December 25, 2023 at 21:46 #1674955I don’t think it’s ever been done has it RTB?
It’s BMG for me. There’s no better man than Nicholls to get one ready for this. A solid bet for me now Gerri has come out.
Single and doubled up with Nicholls runner in the Wincanton bumper! X
December 25, 2023 at 21:48 #1674956Shishkin’s form over further than 2m to me is not actually good enough – making heavy weather of beating of Ahoy Senor 1½L at Aintree now reads horribly (given that horse’s lifeless runs in failing to even complete in two subsequence starts since) and I am far from convinced that Pic D’Orhy (a 5 time G2 winner) is a true G1 performer.
I think Shishkin could very well need a career best and even then that may not be enough to win and that is all supposin he doesn’t think when the tape goes back: F*** this for a game of soldiers.
December 25, 2023 at 21:52 #1674957Don’t think it has Tiz but not looked it up.
The more I know the less I understand.
December 25, 2023 at 22:03 #1674958Im very much leaning towards Alloha, mostly because Paul Townend is travelling over for the ride.
But as we all say, its a race full of ”ifs and buts”.
It was not a typical injury that kept him out, a spleen issue, so its not like a tendon or that.
Anyway, hope one and all had a good christmas, and lets all have a profitable boxing day. - AuthorPosts
