The Real WhackerDecember 20, 2023 at 13:55 #1674416Unless we get a lot of rain, the ground is likely to be a bit on the quick side for Gerri and Royal Pagaille and I also wonder just who is going to get their way and lead this race?
Shishkin (assuming he starts) in his recent races has shown a significant and continued ability to get outpaced at critical parts of a race and he can ill aford to be doing that against better opposition here – also his Aintree win over Ahoy Senor does not read as well now as it did at the time.
Think Frodon could run a very good race but would likely need things to go south for a few of the others in order to win again and as for BMG, his form this season has left a lot to be desired (beaten by a novice at Wetherby and given an uneeded run at Haydock in very testing ground) so I couldn’t be with him this time.
Hewick is interesting as he was running a great race when falling two out in the Gold Cup and he would appreciate it if the ground remained decent.
For me though this all revolves around Allaho – yes his comeback run was workman like and on ground that was as close to unraceable as you will likely get (the time was over a minute slow!!!) but given this was the first time in his career that he had his seasonal debut run prior to December, I feel that he was a lot further forward fitness wise and hopefully the bounce factor will not apply.
If he is anywhere near to still being the horse that won the 2022 Ryanair and Punchestown Gold Cup then it won’t matter what the others do.
December 20, 2023 at 14:02 #1674418Frodon, last run beaten by 17 lengths in a handicap. If he wins it a few days shy of his 12th birthday, it would be about the worst King George ever.
I don’t blame connections having a go but there has got to be something much better than him in the race.
December 20, 2023 at 14:42 #1674421CAS – true he is not the force of old but he was carrying 12st and conceeding 26lbs to the winner (who is entered at Ascot on Saturday and favourite for a Class 1 Premier Handicap) so a decent effort in those circumstances.
He is going to be limited to what races he can run in anyway and you got to be in it to win it and there are enough ifs, buts and maybes over the other runners that stranger things can (and have) happened.
Yes in one way it would be disappointing if he was good enough at his age to win it but it would on the other hand be head and shoulders the most popular and heart warming story there could be….and I just wonder if he did win it would they retire him then and there?

That’s why i’ve placed a small wager e/w.
8 runners
Scenario: 2 of them have an off day and 1 of the 2 falls at a fence.
2 others dont like the track and/or ground.
That leaves 4 remaining for the 3 places.Longshot? Yep.
12 year old, on a flat track, on decent ground. Each way odds worth a small wager imho.
December 20, 2023 at 16:55 #1674430Even though I backed shiskin after he won at ascot I’d love to see a vintage allaho performance
He’s my favourite horse in training

The race is going to be “seismic” apparently. According to the Racing Post anyway.
December 21, 2023 at 11:05 #1674531The Real Whacker is my idea of the winner, or at least one who’ll give me a bit of a run for my money. I’ve taken 9-1
December 21, 2023 at 19:05 #1674597Gerri Colombe not running.

December 22, 2023 at 05:11 #1674640Elliott is such a tease , hope no one fell for it , for the Frodon backers he does tend to spit the dummy when not getting to the front … with Allaho and Whacker he won’t get to the front .., I’ll be playing BMG , already have Allaho and Whisk in covered ante post , really looking forward to watching this , hope Whacker and Allaho go at it
December 22, 2023 at 16:58 #1674659Royale Pagaille now a non runner.
The more I know the less I understand.

December 22, 2023 at 18:53 #167466750-1 EW about Frodon is not too bad. I already had a bit of that, But BMG would still be my idea of a KG winner. It’s the race Nicholls dominates the most, isn’t it?
December 22, 2023 at 19:06 #1674668Hi all.
A Q for you guys, as i dont know the answer. In respect of ante-post bets placed on this race before the entries went down to 6.
E/W is now only 1st 2.
Will antepost each way bets, placed when it was 1st 3, still remain 1st 3?
December 22, 2023 at 19:18 #1674670Yes.
December 24, 2023 at 13:36 #1674873Back on good ground at Kempton I’ll go for Bravemansgame. Obviously Allaho is a big risk, but will he really be back at 170+ level after his long injury? Also a saver on Hewick who also thrives on good ground.
Bravemansgame 9/4
Hewick 16/1Good luck all.
