Why does that warrant him to be anywhere near a challenge for COT ginge? The race was completely setup for a finish like that with the way CLR ran, the race tactics have completely flattered the winner

    Also

Not that it matters, he’s a gelding… wont be anywhere near COT

I was really meaning Calandagan is a potential rival for being the best three year old over middle distances – whether he meets City Of Troy in a race or not. Yes, it was not a vintage King Ed field, but we do have a vintage winner. Because he finished 6 lengths clear of the others. Judging by the provisional Timeform rating I was right in rating the performance better than Ambiente Friendly put up in chasing home City Of Troy at Epsom. Make no mistake that was a Group 1 performance in a Group 2. Still got a little to be up with City Of Troy. But the amount Calandagan improved in one go and his ease of victory… Both suggest it is possible he could be up with COT’s rating next time or by the end of the year.

As for C and COT never meeting. Well it is possible. Although geldings are prohibited from running in Group 1’s restricted to three year olds… And not in any French Group 1 – so yes the Arc is out… However, they are allowed in some open aged Group 1’s in Britain. Including the King George – or they were last year – seem to remember Deauville Legend taking part. Is there a supplementary stage? So it is possible. Although I suspect Augustus will be King George bound and COT Eclipse then International. Could Caladagan go back in trip for one of the 10f Group 1’s against COT?
