In the past – like many trainers – when a horse disappoints/doesn’t show all it can, I’ve heard Kerry Lee say “he was beaten beaten by a better horse on the day“. In other words, the horse that showed the better form on the day won the race. I’d be amazed if it’s not just a case of leaving out those last three words. ie Sometimes when people think it’s blindingly obvious what’s meant they stop mid-sentence, letting the other person/viewer fill…
