The ground this year was a lot softer than last year though which creates a greater emphasis on stamina, its all relative.
Watching two races side by side is totally irrelevant unless they are run in uniform conditions.
I completely understand that. Watching the two races side by side was an investigation into whether or not Kauto was as good as last year.
He clearly wasn’t
He is labouring in 2008 some way before the same point in 2007.
He doesn’t jump anyway near as fluently. That is all.
April 13, 2008 at 02:50 #157617The weird thig about the race is how slow Denman covered the last half of the race……..NC was 3 seconds faster for the first half Denaman was 9 seconds slower for the second half……..just makes you wonder how good a performance it really was……….he’s beat ED not fit Kauto not himself and NC not in the same class…maybe he’s great I have my doubts, but they are only doubts…..my advice is wait till next year and assume nothing.
April 13, 2008 at 21:23 #157705Cian – fair enough re Gold Cup time (sloppy research on my part) – though the ground was slower this year as we all know.

Interesting post race quotes on there:Sam Thomas said: "I didn’t kick at any stage, he’s just such a good horse and travels so well that you could easily go too quick on him because he does everything so easily."
Clive Smith says: "I thought he was beaten at the third last and Ruby also said that he thought the horse was not going to win a mile from home."
