I know that the jumps season is all but over now but maybe this point might get people talking for next season maybe. We all you all know theres been talk in the last week or so about a possible clash between Rainbow View and Fantasia on the flat as both horses are owned by the same person. If a race between Fantasia and Rainbow View can take place this year then why dont we see Clive Smith and Paul Nicholls race Kauto Star and Master Minded against each other. Should Kauto Star win a 3rd gold cup and Master Minded win a 3rd Champion Chase then the temptation will be there to race both horses against each other over 2 and half miles at Aintree’s Melling Chase that will start a few conversations in pubs up and down the country. A clash will give Ruby Walsh a few headaches whom he should choose to ride. Come on lets see Kauto Star v Master Minded next season BRING IT ON!!
Any thoughts anyone?

Never a dull moment on here and posts like this can make your day.
Call your bookie matehe’ll lay you 100,000/1 it ever happening this seaon or the next

First off it would have to be over 2 miles as Master Minded is as near to usless as you can get over 2m.4f. Why on earth would they want to run Kauto Star over 2 miles if Master Minded was sound?
Secondly PN would have Clive Smith taken away by men in whitecoats and locked up if he even suggested such a silly thing.
I take it you were very bored hen you thought this one up
You’re lucky Grassy is sleeping or it would be deleted by now
Have a great day mate but let’s face it there is no chance of this ever happeing and no reason for it to do so.
Neither horse has anything to prove
April 22, 2009 at 21:49 #223061Neither horse has anything to prove Fist, but I reckon Kauto would still do it.
April 22, 2009 at 21:53 #223063Yup, and Ruby would be on him.
April 22, 2009 at 21:57 #223064I genuinely believe that Kauto Star is capable of winning any race from the Champion Chase to the Grand National.
April 22, 2009 at 21:58 #223066it was the bit of work that masterminded put in with kauto star on the gallops that made master minded price drop for the champion chase in 2008 wasnt it? but obviously work on the gallops and the race itself are two different things.
i would say kauto would win with ruby on his back and mccoy on masterminded.
April 22, 2009 at 22:52 #223073If it was over two miles Masterminded would win on any course and on any going. Simply too quick for Kauto. 2m 2f and upwards Kauto would probably win.
Like Mr Fister says though, it’s never gonna happen.. Just be thankful you have (or had) Denman against Kauto!!
April 22, 2009 at 23:47 #223080Master Minded every time over 2m.
Kauto every time over 2m4f and further.
April 23, 2009 at 00:21 #223086^
SimpleApril 23, 2009 at 14:25 #223165Sadly it’ll never happen because connections take the view of ‘whats the point of getting one of them beat needlessly’.
However I wonder if their heads would be turned if a rich man/bookie came forward with say a 500k offer for a winner takes all match at Sandown next April on the final day of the season over say 2m3f…
Not likely in the current financial climate but can you imagine the hype!
April 23, 2009 at 18:42 #223223Master Minded every time over 2m.
Kauto every time over 2m4f and further.
Thats mild for you Grassy although 100% correct. Masterminded is the best I`ve seen over 2 miles and KS one of the best over 2.4 plus. No chance of it ever happening anyway.
April 23, 2009 at 19:29 #223232If this ever where to happen it would be the biggest match race since Seabiscuit and War Admiral.
I would run it over 2m3f or 2m2f at Sandown or Newbury.
This could be an interesting race and the betting would be phenominal.
Even better chuck in Denman to act as pacemaker or as a runner too.
April 23, 2009 at 19:48 #223235I’ll go with the Tank over three miles on good/soft!! (controversy)
April 23, 2009 at 21:22 #223242Dream on…
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
April 24, 2009 at 05:24 #223310We will find out the result the day we meet our maker. I would love to see Kauto win! and I am not sure ruby would choose kauto, depends really. I don’t think Kauto has the speed that masterminded posesses and therefore he would have to use his stamina.
If only that Stanford bloke liked national hunt racing
April 24, 2009 at 07:45 #223316I would run it over 2m3f or 2m2f at Sandown or Newbury.
If its going to be over 2m2f shouldn’t it be at Fontwell?

I can undertand those who think Kauto Star could beat Master Minded over two miles as he is one awesome horse.
Kauto Star took me out of the doldrums of years of would be super stars and if I am not his biggest a fan I am certainly one of them.
When he won the King George 2 back I reckoned he had improved about 7 to10lbs. AP reckoned it would have taken Pegasus to beat him in the Gold Cup. Then it all went wrong for some unknown reason. For a spell many people thought he was finished. He’s French etc etc.
As we all know he came right back to his best that saw him win that KG and won the Gold Cup as he liked.
The reason I am mentioning all this is that Kauto Star 2009 is not Kauto Star of 2006/7 who beat VPU 7 lengths in the Tingle Creek. He may well have beaten Master Minded back then but nowadays his main asset are to travel at 3 mile chasing pace with ease and to kick off that pace.
The instant acceleration is still there but stick Kauto Star into a QMCC these days and that accereation would be eaten up by the sheer pace these top 2 milers go at.
If you think Denman would take the sting out of his tail over 3 miles plus Master Minded would take him into a new dimension he hasn’t experienced since he was barely out of his novice stage.
I doubt very much if Kauto Star would appreciate going flat to the boards and if being thruthful Master Minded is a much superior jumper at speed than Kauto anyway.
Suggesting the meet over further would certainly help Kauto but it would be totally unfair to Master Minded. He is 100% a two miler and if you suggest furher what you are doing is agreeing he coudn’t beat Master Minded over his best and only trip.

Anyway nothing can prevent what I always hoped for. I have been saying on here since the day I joined Kauto Star is the best chaser since Arkle and his achievemnts and his awseome wins in the King George and Gold Cup confirm that IMO
Now we have Master Minded who may even go on to share the mantle of best chaser of all time with Arkle. A mere 6 years old and already two QMCC’s under his belt and as short as 1/2 fav to take a third next March.
This horse is young enough to win another 4 QM’s and that’s mind boggling. Two great horses, with two totally different objectives, with no meeting place in between, who thankfully will never clash.
