Simply awsome!!!!!!
Not a fan but i am now-Jumped like a stag, and could have stopped for a piss half way round and still won!!!
Well done to anyone that got on at a decent antepost price for gold cup
Im on My Way De Solzen
December 26, 2007 at 16:22 #131919You have to give McCoy credit fair play to him for trying to win the race it cost him second place most probably but hats off to him for having a go.
December 26, 2007 at 17:19 #131921Kauto Star was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hairs still standing up on the back of my neck. honestly, i had tears in my eyes seeing how impressive he won (and fact he won me quite a bit of money!!). I’m so pleased he won, he truly is a star! Best horse i’ve ever ever seen (in my time anyway!). Love that horse, he’s amazing! Gooo Kauto for Cheltenham gold cup 2008!!!!!!!!!!December 26, 2007 at 17:56 #131925Nearest rival stable out of form, running under conditions that he probably wouldn’t be seen at his best either, so KS has battered RD and Our Vic easily
Besides the layers did anyone really expect a different performance from KS???
December 26, 2007 at 18:07 #131928Best display of chasing I have ever seen, what a horse.

A very good effort, but that is surely a slight exaggeration? Our Vic and Racing Demon are good horses but world beaters they are not.
Dk you are making a big mistake you are looking at the finger again…………….stuff what he beat………..this is truly a champion of champions give the horse the credit he deserves………If the main danger, Denman gets within 5 lengths of him in the GC I will eat my own ass

That is a negative view don’t you think? or are you a worried Denman fan? lol

Kauto won in brilliant fashion today against a high class field – it’s that simple.

As stated, nearest rival stable out form, rest of the field miles behind in ability – Kauto Star won as he should have today
December 26, 2007 at 18:21 #131932I’m with Charlie to a large degree. Other than that Kauto Star did win in slightly better fashion than I expected him to.
He beat Racing Demon 3 lengths and a bit more than 12 months ago and Exotic Dancer (given an odd ride) 4.25 lengths further than 12 months ago, but we knew there had been something to spare that day. Our Vic was second today, and I for one don’t regard him as a mid-170s horse.
Kauto Star confirmed that he’s got exceptional talent – there wasn’t really any doubt about that anyway – but he hasn’t just taken jump racing onto a wholly new level. If it’s his best effort then it is not by very much.
Let’s hope that Denman delivers on Friday and that he and Kauto Star turn up 100% in March, as this is making up into one of the greatest showdowns in recent racing history.

Look – he is quite obviously the best of the established older staying chasers and is a rock solid, consistent, 180ish performer. That is giving him the credit he deserves imo . He isn’t the best chaser ever seen on what he has done though so let’s not pretend otherwise.
December 26, 2007 at 18:22 #131934It was hard to imagine a more impressive performance than Denman’s Hennessy this side of the New Year, but there we have it!!
How many more excuses can his detracters come up with now?? Let’s see…I know, he’s not the same horse running backwards!!
All this rubbish we’ve had to listen to. He’s not a great jumper – I hope they witnessed his leap at the last. He can’t go right-handed – two Tingle Creeks at Sandown, two King George’s at Kempton. He doesn’t stay – a Gold Cup winner over 3m2f etc etc. Oh, I almost forgot, he’s not the same horse as last season – he’s actually a better horse than last season and, given his age, who would dare say he won’t be even better next season.
Seriously, it’s a pleasure to watch this great horse.
Let’s not be too dismissive of Denman, though. I had to laugh at the exaggerated comments after his Newbury romp in regards to him ‘blowing Kauto away’. It’s easy to get carried away after witnessing a performance of the highest class, yet Denman will be no pushover at Cheltenham. He’s unbeaten at Cheltenham over fences and, if given a big lead by Ruby aboard Kauto (he will be aboard), he will be very difficult to pass.
Let’s start appreciating this horse because, as the old cliche goes, we won’t see another like this for a long, long time and, given the unpredictability of the National Hunt game, he could be taken from us at any moment.

TDK,
I think its quite clear I said that the best display of chasing "I" have ever seen.

December 26, 2007 at 18:52 #131941I’ve got Kauto Star running to 181 today – here is the best bit – that was without him coming off the bridle. He is a serious, serious horse certainly the best since Dessie no question.
Exotic Dancer was ridden to try and beat Kauto and therefore didn’t run to his best ran somewhere around 170 as did Racing Demon consistant with is run last year and Our Vic consistant with his best form (in favourable conditions). You can’t really knock the form, Kauto has beaten them without being asked a question.
Denman so far hasn’t beaten a top class horse. There is no doubt he is good but taking on Kauto Star is going to be a different ball game to him, Kauto has gears.
December 26, 2007 at 18:58 #131943I think the point about Denman is that at this stage we don’t know how good he can become. He has a bit to find on the book with Kauto Star (although not a great deal imo), but he is still on an upward curve and there is every chance he can prove to be the better of the pair…
It could be that Denman has already hit his ceiling and will never quite make the 180 – ish horse that KS is. However, if one were asked which of the two might be capable of being rated the equal or superior of Desert Orchid (187 at his prime), then common sense suggests it would be Denman.

You don’t think Kauto Star was worthy of a few more lengths victory today? Ruby was patting his neck half way up the run in.
Denman gallops but he doesn’t have the acceleration that Kauto has, I know where my money would be going.
December 26, 2007 at 19:23 #131948He beat Racing Demon 3 lengths and a bit more than 12 months ago and Exotic Dancer (given an odd ride) 4.25 lengths further than 12 months ago, but we knew there had been something to spare that day.
I thought he definately had more to spare this time around Pru. Ok, there was a slight doubt about his staying ability back then and maybe he was ridden accordingly, but this was far more dominant than last years KG
December 26, 2007 at 19:29 #131951To be honest, at the moment, I couldn’t be in the least bit arsed about ratings, what he beat or how well the other horses ran or didn’t run.
That was was a bl**dy impressive run from a classy horse, who has finally won me over …… I just want to savour the moment. Respect to the animal and his connections.
He’s never going to race Arkle or Dessie so any debate about relative ratings is academic and IMO a waste of time, the past is the past, lets hail our current hero. Anyway ratings are subjective and almost everything about racing has changed since Arkle had his moment of glory, you aren’t comparing like with like. Anyway does it really matter if he is as good, better or worse than Arkle?
I would lay very short odds on there will be another debate on here in ten years time when the exceptional horse of that generation appears and it will be compared with Arkle, Dessie, Kauto Star and whatever else has appeared in the interin.

I’d guess there are probably twice as many horses run today than there were in Arkle’s day for a start. Training facilities are now better than they were, for all any of us know Arkle and his stable companions may just have been fitter than horses from other yards. Look at the difference first Michael Dickinson then Martin Pipe made to the racehorse.
Not saying Arkle wasn’t a great, he obviously was but if he were running now would he be giving lumps of weight to Kauto and beating him? No I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t regardless of what anyone says.
