Ginger
If you watch enough replays of Kauto’s races, you should realise that he runs left at many of his fences, often quite early in his races.
Though I’m no vet, I would also have thought that with one foot usually supporting the full shock of impact, it’s more important to the horse which foot he lands on, rather than which he takes off from.December 30, 2008 at 04:56 #200342It may be more important as far as injury goes which foot a horse lands on, but not by how comfortable he is by doing so.
If you are right footed jumping a barrel, I would say it is more comfortable to jump the barrel leading with the correct leg, when landing I don’t actually think at all.
Try it Reet!

Put it another way: If a 110 metre hurdler had six years of leading with the right leg. Then got injured in a way that made it painful to land. How easy / comfortable would it be for him to learn to jump leading with his left? Could he become as good on that leg? Or would he try and continue the best he could, through the pain barrier.

Great theory Ginge, but horses have 4 legs; 2 of which they jump off, and – normally – one which they land on. (Unless of course, it’s Carvillshill

Anyone done homework to see the average rating Kauto Star runs to RH against LH?
Sorry if I’ve missed it.

KS has gained 6 180+ RPR’s – 3 of them on LH tracks.
It is also worth noting that his record over 3m is 7/8; over all other distances he is 6/12.
