I have got a simple question to ask: –

    Juvenile horses.

When is a horse a juvenile and when does it stop being one?

Oooooh, that’s a difficult one…. that’s probably why no one’s given you an answer….. perhaps someone on this forum knows for definite, but I can only go by what I read somewhere, it may not be accurate….
I understand the they are juveniles at the ages 2 and 3…. a 2YO is the equivalent to a child of the age of 5 to 10…. a 3YO would therefore be equivalent to a child between the age of 11 to 15….. so a horse is deemed as "grown up" only at the age of 4…. so until he reaches 4 years of age, he would still be a juvenile……
This is only my understanding of it, I am prepared to be corrected…..

Because I am in the "Land of the Dongle" and will not be home until the week-end I cannot spend too much time on the machine – poor signal/double cost; anyway I have been reading a book by Ricky Taylor PROFITABLE BETTING SYSTEMS FOR HORSERACING where he suggests better results can be found from certain form figs.

Very similar to the one suggested by David Duncan in his book but this time in greater depth.

He breaks them down into: –

    Non Juvenile Stakes
    Non Juvenile Handicaps
    Juvenile Maidens
    Juvenile Non Maidens 3yo Maidens

When back in the "Land of the Land Line" I will try to put these figs. up and see what can be made of them.

    Hi Billion,

As far as I’m aware, all horses, whatever their true date of birth, are given a notional date of birth of 1st January.

Juveniles on the flat are horses aged 2.

Juveniles on the jumps are horses aged 3.
