Really disappointing news re KK. There have to be very severe doubts about whether he’ll ever be seen in action again which would be a great shame. A clash with him, Kauto Star and War of Attrition would have been a highlight of any racing year.
Agree 100%.
I thought Hoppy’s news about Cyrlight was a downer … but this is even worse.

Speaking of Noble Request – does anyone know what happened to Wellbeing, the horse that beat him impressively at Aintree in his last race (and is also trained by P. Hobbs)? I expected him to be a Champion Hurdle contender this year… I can’t remember reading about him being injured or anything.

THE triumphant second coming of the 2000 Derby fifth and dual Group winner Wellbeing has come to a close, with a ligament injury ending his jumping career, writes Rodney Masters.<br>The nine-year-old’s revival reached its pinnacle on what turned out to be his final appearance – victory in a Listed handicap hurdle at Aintree on Grand National day, which prompted his inclusion in ante-post markets for the 2007 Champion Hurdle.<br>However, trainer Philip Hobbs said yesterday: "It’s a great shame, but due to a problem with the check ligament below his off-fore knee we’ve had to retire him. He was a very talented horse with a wonderful temperament, and it was a pleasure to train him."<br>The trainer added: "Wellbeing was very impressive at Aintree when winning by almost ten lengths, beating another of our horses, Noble Request, who went on to win the Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr and the Betfair Million Hurdle at Sandown."<br>At Aintree, Wellbeing was completing a hat-trick and the achievement underscored the training skills of Hobbs. The son of Sadler’s Wells was unraced for more than two years when joining Hobbs from France in the winter of 2004.<br>He was trained by Henry Cecil when finishing fifth behind Sinndar in the 2000 Derby, but returned from Epsom with sore shins and did not reappear that year until late September’ soon after, he won the Group 3 St Simon Stakes.<br>During 2002, Wellbeing raced for Chantilly trainer Pascal Bary, for whom he won Deauville’s Group 3 Prix Gontaut-Biron. In all he won six of his 14 races on the Flat, and three of his six starts over hurdles.<br>Bred by the late Lord Howard de Waldren, he will be retired to owner Lady Howard de Walden’s home at Hungerford, near Lambourn. <br>

February 8, 2007 at 23:24 #79594Still see a few people are risking a few bob on Feathard Lady in the champion…….. no one seems to want to lay 500’s anymore.
I really hope she gets over her problems sometime this season, she looked all class. Was my ante post bet for the champion this year
February 9, 2007 at 10:21 #79595I dont think connections of Feathard Lady are going to pull the fast one that connections of Kicking King pulled a few year back, he’s injured out of the Gold Cup, available to back at the maximum on Betfair, Somebody knows more than the general public as the price is hoovered up and continues a pace. All of a sudden Kicking Kings ok he’s going to run in he gold cup afterall. Duly bolts up. I smelt a rat at the time, and believe connections of the horse were in on it.
February 9, 2007 at 10:34 #79596It’s hard to have sympathy for people who lay injured or fallen horses at 1000 on BF.

Agreed Dave, I had no sympathy for the layers they got stung.<br>But I still think Kicking connections pulled a fast one, it was’nt just betfair it was backed everywhere, for a horse who was supposed to have a setback just before Cheltenham, you normally thread carefully, not this lot they couldnt get enough on.
February 11, 2007 at 18:28 #79598Briareus who was 10/1 for the Arkle has suspensory ligament problems and is out for the season.
