4 years after being closed by ARC Hereford Racecourse will start hosting jumps under rules racing again in October 2016.

Now if only they’ll do the same for Folkestone.
January 21, 2016 at 20:14 #1230262Fantatsic news. Always loved going racing there. Nice fair course.
January 21, 2016 at 21:07 #1230271Great news but surely something must have changed for ARC to do a complete 180 over this issue as they were so sure it was not a viable concern when they closed the course.
Does this decision give Folkestone any cause for hope?

LOL, I would argue that ARC did everything they could to make it unviable then held a gun to the County Council’s head to try and get a lucrative deal to develop a part of the property – ie land that the council owned. A standoff ensued and whilst the clock ticked down on the lease ARC were still required to maintain the course. Anyway one way or another it has been resolved and I guess the detail of how – i.e. who conceded what, will emerge in due course.
January 21, 2016 at 21:54 #1230277Hopefully we get Folkestone back too

Lucky they kept their racing licence so were able to quickly switch some meetings over for the end of the year.
I’m intriged to know what changed though. Wonder if we’ll ever find out. Still, part seems to be down to ARC’s new management trying to shake its “nasty racecourse group” image.
Despite closing the course, ARC kept hold of the lease but has so far not been able to reach an agreement with the authority over it.
Gill said: “There’s no deal over the lease with the local council yet, but we said to prove that we wanted to do business we are going to re-open the track.
“There will be four fixtures moved to Hereford from within the ARC group from October, and then we plan 12 more in 2017.
“Relations with the council were, as you can imagine, frosty for a while after Hereford closed, but we went to them last summer and said there’s a new face at the top and we want to do business.”

Doesn’t look as if Folkestone will open again though.
Still, we can always hope because they won’t fully shake their current image until that course is re-opened too. - AuthorPosts
