The only thing I got right was agreeing it was strange Virtual was taking a walk in the market.
Very well done those who dug him out and hope you all got the 10/1.
What on earth Spencer was up to I have no idea. I am not saying he would have been in the first 3 but he was up there with every chance and surely he should have stayed where he was as space were begining to appear.
However for some reason, known only to himself, he decides to switch the horse and goes rouund the back of 5 horses and ends up the backside of two horses.
Whe he gets a clear run Tariq who had been hanging straightens himself out and strats to run on again.
He wasn’t really hampered in any way but Spencer has ridden better races and must have cost him a couple of lengths. I strongly disagree with our resident expert who says he doesn’t stay a mile. The horse had several setbacks last season after this race and you don’t run horses like Pheonix Tower to a neck after being hemmed in if you don’t get the trip.
Lost a few quid but it’s out on temporary loan, a good first run and he looks a sure fire winner in the near future IMO.
Twice Over managed to find a couple too good for him again but surprised me how well he ran. I would imagine Cecil will looking for a race over a bit further and delay gelding him

Paco Boy might actually be a very backable price the next time he runs and I woudn’t give up on him too quickly.
Frankie just got pipped but looking at it again Jimmy Fortune always had that tiny bit up his sleeve. Looksa real game progressive sort
One of the best races I’ve seen this season entertainment wise and well worth keeping an eye out for a few of them next time they run.
May 16, 2009 at 19:53 #228089Paco Boy is clearly one those specialist seven furlong horses.

got 9/1 happy as the proverbial larry
May 16, 2009 at 21:32 #228104A cracking good race. Didn’t back anything as fancied Paco Boy…not the price. Therefore I generally watched Paco Boy early on and thought he was a bit keen as i didn’t think early pace looked visually strong. Still thought he might get there as they passed the two pole but not too be. Wont be giving up on him. A mile on decent ground at an easy track looks ideal…already looking like Sussex stakes is written all over him!
Of the others, Virtual showed a good attitude and Alexandros ran well. Twice Over is possibly just a group 2 horse and so should possible try and get a group 3 or 2 on board and then step back up to group one later in season.
May 16, 2009 at 21:51 #228107Which race will Paco Boy be in for Royal Ascot and which day of the week is it? Thanks.

CrizzyI’d expect it could be the Queen Anne on the Tuesday, Crizzy.
May 17, 2009 at 00:05 #228126I am not a fan of Paco Boy, he was race fit and happy on the ground at Sandown on what is notoriously a bad lousy race in terms of the value of the form.
Money on Twice Over being sent too the continent for his next start.
May 17, 2009 at 02:31 #228141Paco Boy is certianly a good horse, it was a shame Virtual turned him over here, as no one would have had Virtual as a G1 horse last year, but if you put him in with genuine G1 milers, he is going to get easy beat i’e Head’s filly, she’d make mincemeat out of him imo.
Obviously Paco Boy has beaten Virtual over a mile on Good so if Ascot comes up firm I’d see him turning the tables.
I backed Twice Over, he had an excuse with his injury before hand, I think the changes last year in his distances probably hurt him, he wasn’t in the same league as New Approach, Tartan Bearer and Frozen Fire over their distances and it was fruitless pursing the big middle distance prizes, so a mile campaign is what I’d like to see, but if he fails if going this route it would be a shame for a horse that promised so much at one point. To me he is looking exposed though and he is one you can’t really trust.

Are you sure? Looked all out to me and a fortunate winner as there must be little doubt Alexandros would have prevailed if Frankie hadn’t lost his whip and even then 80% of the nod favoured the runner up.
May 17, 2009 at 11:07 #228171Fortune admitted on RUK that he had thought he had lost. He felt he was behind a stride before and after the line but was lucky enough that his horse’s head was in front on the line.
As he said, lucky on the day but these things tend to even themselves out, he had been in races when circumstances had been reversed.

So that’s why Frankie was flapping around like Batman gone wrong
In that case I was most likely wrong.May 17, 2009 at 14:35 #228203Fortune certainly thought he’d lost it, that was obvious from the frustrated crack on the backside he gave Virtual after the finishing line.
Not what we like to see Jimmy.
May 17, 2009 at 14:42 #228205Those of us "Fortune" ate to have collected on Virtual have to admit we
were lucky! Alexandros should have won, simple as that! forget Paco Boy
at Ascot, if the ground comes up Good Alexandros will get his revenge
on Virtual, if it comes up soft Virtual will win again! Paco Boy is not a
proper Group 1 horse, he is over rated!May 17, 2009 at 17:13 #228229Paco Boy will remain top rated of yesterdays Lockinge runners by the end of the season, i’m fairly certain of that. Therefore i couldn’t disagree more with you.
May 17, 2009 at 17:33 #228235Paco Boy is slightly over-rated no way is he the second best horse in the world as RPR’s have suggested, he is however a genuine group 1 horse just not over eight furlongs. Class got him home on fast ground at Sandown but his is a speed horse who is at his best at seven furlongs. There is suspicion that he may go for the July Cup over 6f, that would be interesting.

I dont think he’ll be quick enough for the July Cup, as odd as that sounds.
Gosden planned to do that with Ravens Pass last year and look what happened. They diverted, went to Goodwood and Ascot and the rest is history.
Thats not saying he’ll go down the same route but I cant see him winning the July Cup. If anyone does he’s 13/1 on Betfair.
