Have not see a better horse than Chief Singer win this race.
August 12, 2012 at 14:42 #409606You’ll see a much better one when Frankel wins it.

Chief Singer didn’t win it. He was third, behind Cormorant Wood, in 1984.
August 12, 2012 at 15:32 #409612I could be a smart ass and say I did not say he won it,I said I has not seen a better horse than Chief Singer win it(non of those who won it were better than Chief Singer)I thought that he won it.So I humbly accept the correction in good faith.I needed to open a Juddmonte thread.
August 15, 2012 at 17:15 #409866Have just backed St Nic at 7/1, think he’s a great each way bet! Can’t wait to see Frankel step up in trip
August 16, 2012 at 12:00 #409928Each-way Twice Over at 16/1? Given the horse’s great form at the the course and a promising run in the Eclipse I like the chances of this bet coming off especially if the rain stays away. Two wins from four starts at the Knavesmire, with one defeat by half a length in the 2010 renewal of this and the other when third in the 2008 Dante behind decent horses Tarten Bearer and Frozen Fire. The horse certainly brings his best form to the course and at this time of year having 3 wins from 5 starts in August/September throughout his career. Despite the fact that St Nicholas Abbey has won a Group 1 at a mile and the Juddmonte is an extended 10 furlongs, a drop back to this trip worries me. The Ballydoyle Ace has come just third and second on his two starts over 10 furlongs and I’m still not convinced Joseph O’Brien can quite ride him to the best of his abilities. A hold up horse who can out-sprint horses over 12 furlongs but over this distance I can’t see him coming from behind Frankel who’ll kick on at about two furlongs out. The only way I can see Frankel getting beet is if a horse makes Frankel have to go past them in a fight and St Nic’s not a horse than can do that.
August 16, 2012 at 17:54 #409944It’s extremely difficult to look past the first 3 in the betting finishing 123 in the race.
With Frankel looking unbeatable any cash on the win side of things is lost before you start. The best you can hope for with Nathanial at 6/1 is 1/4 your cash and SNA isn’t much better at just over 1/3.
Twice Over now 20/1 with Corals represents some value. He ran a very good race considering the ground was dead against him in the Eclipse so he could run Nathanial a bit closer. Again the best you can hope for in reality is 2/1 on your investment.
I would imagine all the above prices for a place will be bettered on Betfair so betting EW with the bookies looks a bit foolish to me.
Frankel will of course win and I see no reason why Nathaniel won’t be in the first 3 so other than those 2 you have one chance of getting a return. SNA Twice Over or Sri Putra could fill the other place depending on who is silly enough to mix it with Frankel. Anything that does is in danger of being run out of it late on as we have seen so many times.
Not a betting race for me unless someone is daft enough to match Nathanial at around 1.8…4/5 for a place which I can’t see happening
August 16, 2012 at 22:33 #40995733/1 looks good for Planteur, to me. He looks laid out. It would only need Himself to sustain a wee injury or be off-colour (or peely-wally, as they say in these pairts), or be stretched by the pace over the new distance, to be in with a good shout.
August 17, 2012 at 00:05 #409962Agree it’s not a race to be betting in, just sit back and enjoy the view cos’ he’ll only have another two races max.
August 17, 2012 at 00:28 #409966It will be fascinating to see how the tactics pan out. Obviously Bullet Train is there to ensure an honest pace for Frankel. How will the Ballydoyle pacemakers be ridden so far they have haven’t attempted to try to take on Bullet Train for the pace, surely they will try to force a really fast gallop to try and expose any lack of stamina in Frankel.
As Nathaniel is unlikly to run, the race could well be teed-up for another one-two for Cecil. I would presume they have a good idea where they stand with Frankel and will be ridden to get 2nd. I would imagine Farhh and St.Nicholas Abbey will actually try to win and take Frankel on when he goes. We all know that trying to match strides with Frankel means your horse is very tired inside the final furlong.

With Ian Mongan likely to renew his association with Twice Over, whoever gets the ride on Bullet Train has to ensure that he doesn’t get involved with the Ballydoyle pacemakers and just sets steady fractions which Frankel can track. The Coolmore pacemakers aren’t good enough to steal the race from the front, so Bullet Train should be able to ignore them and give his illustrious stablemate a tow to the two furlong pole.
St Nicholas Abbey will almost certainly be held up and try to exploit any weakness in Frankel’s stamina in the last furlong. If St Nick lies up closer to the pace than usual and kicks on early, he’ll just be a sitting duck.
August 17, 2012 at 09:54 #409990I cannot envisage anything other than a Frankel victory. Even Roberto would find it nigh impossible to stop him, let alone St Nicholas Abbey.
I think Bullet Train will set off at a steady pace, not too fast, hopefully allowing Frankel to settle. I expect an injection of pace after four furlongs, steadily increasing as they turn into home straight. Tom Queally sitting still in the saddle with St Nicholas Abbey stalking him. Bullet Train moves aside with three to go; Queally lets out an inch of rein, Frankel responds. Joseph O’Brien stokes his horse for an effort as Frankel lengthens, St Nich attempts to go with him, Frankel lengthens some more, Joseph panics, St. Nich hard ridden. Planteur running on empty. The rest struggling. Twice Over meekly relinquishes his crown to his stable superior.

Frankel gone ! Race over. Simple.

August 17, 2012 at 12:48 #410005to try and expose any lack of stamina in Frankel.
This assumes there is a lack of stamina. If there was the remotest chance of him not getting the trip he wouldn’t be a 1/7 shot.

Very few punters have read Belloc, and those that have often choose to ignore his sagacity.

It could be argued that being as big as 1/7 takes in to account that doubt, as if there were no doubt he’d probably be 1/20 as in the Sussex, Nic is after all, only rated 2lb higher than Farhh.

I think he should be 1/10 or shorter. I don’t think Nathaniel will run and if he does I don’t give him any chance on the line through Farhh. I will be looking for winning margin betting on the race and going for a big number of lengths. Sir Henry said months ago that he thought Frankel will be better for the step up in trip and it is easy to visualise some tired horses in behind going into the final furlong where Frankel could well draw away, even from Saint Nicholas Abbey (who I have never rated as highly as some people do).
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
