Haven’t seen the race yet, but reckoned that ATD’s price was ridiculous. Taking on 2 multiple group 1 winners, after what a moderately impressive Ascot win.
    Unfortunatley I backed Midday

Third for three in the big ones,Derby,King George and Juddmonte. Maybe it’s time to get Murtagh back and let Joseph ride in the apprentice races to lose his claim and earn his right to race with the big boys.

Its fairly obvious that you have a whole portion of chips on your shoulder in regards to young Mr O’Brien. By failing to acknowledge that he rode an excellent race on Roderic O’Connor (His first live chance in a classic) in the Irish 2000 your argument looks more like an embittered diatribe.
We all have opinions of jockeys good and bad but do you honestly believe that the Coolmore operation would allow family sentiment to get in the way of business. It is quite clear that Johnny Murtagh and Aidan O’Brien had a breakdown in their relationship so that avenue is closed.

In a word, yes. They’ve got history of giving family members a greater chance to succeed.

I think when a jockey gets a soft lead out in front like Joseph got in the Irish 2000, it’s more a case of other jockeys riding poor races than the one good ride. Though it’s true he did nothing wrong.

Joseph is a capable apprentice EF, possibly one of the best apprentices in Ireland.

But, do you really think Coolmore would employ an apprentice to ride in the best races in the World, if he was not in the family?

Have Coolmore ever given any other apprentice that sought of chance? Family means a lot to the Magniers. Don’t forget Aidan O’Brien and David Watchman are also "in the family". Team Coolmore probably know Joseph won’t be able to keep his weight under control for much longer, so if he’s ever to get to the top it must be done quickly. Hence fast-tracking Joseph to top races.

That is a massive point, and it is hard to argue that any other apprentice that wasn’t in the ‘Coolmore family’, would be riding in such races on such horses. However, remember, blood is thicker than water.

Congrats to those who were on Twice Over! :D

It should certainly be remembered that Coolmore have done extremely well in the past by keeping it in the family.

Ah, but how much better could they have done by employing the best person for the job?

Gingertipster, sounds like Coolmore are now running a carnival roundabout ride for the O’Brien family. When the kids grow up we will get back to serious racing sort of thing. I just don’t buy it.Sad day for an internationally known, world famous, operation. What about Ryan Moore? Was that all eye wash? What about the best available? More eyewash? The Hays were not prepared to go along with the roundabout rides for Joseph. It’s not like he is the next Lester Piggott. Do you really believe that Michael Tabor is family inclined? Or Derrik Smith? Is that how they got to the top? That they have the box next to the Queen at Ascot to watch Joseph have fun rides? The leverage that got rid of Murtagh and put Joseph up is more than love of the kids.Lets take the kids to the Curragh and watch Joseph ride for uncle Michael and Derrick, Lets all go to Epsom children to see Joseph ride in the Derby. Put on your new outfits children we are all going to Ascot to watch Joseph ride in the KIng George!Whoopie! watching Joseph is so much fun. He’ll be all grown up next year and will have to study like the other kids at school. But Mammy can’t he still ride even if he is over weight?Don’t worry children Uncle John will fix everything. Is that what these great races are all about? Will this year be known famously as the year of Frankel and Joseph? Making an apprentice first jockey at Ballydoyld in place of one of the great jockeys in the world does not pass the smell test.Does one need a chip on one’s shoulder to reflect on the unfolding events of the year at Ballydoyle?

Hey Andy does this mean that you have a total lack of confidence in the other two then!

    Classic

    !! :o

I understand your frustrations there but let’s be fair what better place to gain valuable group1 riding experience than in

    yet

    another 5 runner race!!
It’s hardly the same as a rough house Arc or a full house 18 runner field in the Japan Cup…
it might even stand him in good stead for the Irish Champion!!

By the way this post should go in the "

    best of thread

    "!!

I was once advised that my luck would change if my money held out.It didn’t.But if I had more money who knows?

Thanks for that… made me laugh! :D

Think what a race the International would have been if Ryan Moore and St Nicholas Abbey had been in it.
