March 14, 2013 at 23:19 #432810Other sad news today is that Rebecca Julian has tweeted that her father Marten, journalist and author of the dark Horses books has been taken to hospital after feeling unwell. Let’s hope all is going to be ok there as well.
March 14, 2013 at 23:21 #432811Thopughts are with John Thomas MacNamara. It was a really horrid fall.
March 15, 2013 at 04:44 #432839Best wishes to JT. I hope tomorrow brings better news.
March 15, 2013 at 06:52 #432843Echo all those thoughts. Finger crossed for JT…
Moe – also listened to the BBC coverage (as the kids were home) and they really captured the sombre, uneasy mood about the place.
March 15, 2013 at 09:14 #432857Sounds like the BBC doing what it does best then, capturing the mood of the moment.
Very best wishes for a complete recovery, JT. Everyone’s thinking of you and wishing you the best.
March 15, 2013 at 09:26 #432859We were at Cheltenham on Tuesday and noticed the good rapport between Andrew Thornton and John Inverdale; think AT will do very well with media work when he finally hangs up his boots. Paul; I’m sure you will but please pass on our thoughts and prayers to everyone at Cheltenham today.
March 15, 2013 at 11:17 #432889Latest bulletin confirms a fracture of the C3 and C4 vertebra – it is possible he may be going into surgery later today.
Everyone’s thoughts are with him.
In terms of Davy Russell he is doing well and is expected to be released from hospital tomorrow.

Issued jointly by Dr Adrian McGoldrick, Irish Turf Club Senior Medical Officer and Lisa Hancock, CEO, Injured Jockeys Fund on behalf of the McNamara Family.March 16, 2013 at 14:18 #433197My wife spent three weeks in an induced coma in 1999 due to severe viral pneumonia that meant 90% of her lungs were not functioning. Doctors at the time told me this was done to give the body the best chance to heal itself. Luckily she became well enough to be wakened up and then embarked on a long road back to something like full health. Hopefully the same will happen to J T Mcnamara and he makes as full a recovery as possible.
Just as an aside, my wife had some very strange dreams when in the induced coma. One was George Clooney trying to burn down our house and another was about having triplets in Japan. The first thing she asked me when she was able to talk again was how many kids we had!!
Good luck JT.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 16, 2013 at 18:00 #433222Best wishes to JT and my thoughts are with him and his family and friends.

A brilliant, moving article
March 29, 2013 at 23:00 #434335No surprise, but JT has been paralysed after his Festival fall.
He is reported to be very positive. Best wishes, JT.
March 29, 2013 at 23:02 #434336Not the best news in the week before the Grand National, more ammunition I fear for the uneducated critics of our sport. I wish the jockey and his family all the best for the future.
