Really sad to see. Things look quite bad. Taken by Air Ambulance to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol. I’m sure all on here wish him the best and hope things are going to be ok.
March 14, 2013 at 18:17 #432749Put into induced coma, sounds like a very very serious spinal or neck injury.
March 14, 2013 at 18:18 #432750It is very worrying to see that he has been taken to Frenchay instead of Cheltenham General. Frenchay Hospital has a specialist spinal injury and neurological unit, so it suggests that JT has a serious injury of that nature.
March 14, 2013 at 18:28 #432754Mood has changed completely. Makes you realise what is important. Such a good amateur jockey. Fingers crossed for JT.
Also hope Davy Russell recovers well from a spontaneous punctured lung.
Value Is EverythingMarch 14, 2013 at 18:43 #432755Best wishes to JT McNamara.
March 14, 2013 at 18:47 #432756Worrying indeed.
You sometimes forget just how much danger jockeys put themselves in on a daily basis. Dominic Elsworth took a right smack in the face yesterday and was off today, Davy Russell out and this looks potentially the most serious of all.
Hope very much that it is not as bad as it seems it might be.
March 14, 2013 at 19:34 #432763Just read on another forum that he was conscious before being put into the coma which has made me feel much more optimistic for him. It was awful listening to it on the radio [sometimes think radio broadcasts pick up on atmospheres more than visual broadcasts]. Puts a lot of things in persepective, doesn’t it.
March 14, 2013 at 19:43 #432764Reports say he was conscious but was suffering from major breathing problems when they got to him, doctors on course put him in induced coma and put in ambulance and had to be resuscitated twice on the way to hospital.
Sounds horrifying as more reports suffice.
March 14, 2013 at 20:04 #432765These lads and lasses that ply their trade whether pros or ams. are as tough as teak so to couple that up with the immediate and best treatment we can give in our hospitals gives JT the best of care.
Every day watching NH. racing we all see crunching falls and cringe, i feel sure the lad will be out next week doing what he loves, but still a nasty tumble.March 14, 2013 at 21:07 #432775Neck injury, in serious condition is the update, most dangerous job in the world.
March 14, 2013 at 21:15 #432777Try saying that to the lads in Afghanistan.

March 14, 2013 at 21:31 #432786So am I.
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysMarch 14, 2013 at 22:13 #432793I understand it is possible damage to the C3 and C4 vertebra and the full extent of the damage will be known in the morning when he has a scan.
The C3 is the more worrying as it impacts the diaphragm, which would explain the breathing problems and why he is in the induced coma.
There was certainly a subdued atmosphere at the racecourse, or at least there was amongst those who were aware of what had happened – the piss heads carried on regardless.
All in all a horrible day with Davy Russells injury earlier on and the loss of Matuhi – it has certainly overshadowed the actual racing.
It shows the risks these guys (and girls) take every time they go out and ride.March 14, 2013 at 22:35 #432796Best wishes to him and his loved ones.
Awful.March 14, 2013 at 22:55 #432802I also wish JT all the best and his injury isn’t as bad as feared.
Unfortunately I do fear that today’s sad events will give the uneducated and misinformed bleeding heart liberals another chance to say racing is cruel and should be banned. I’m waiting for the first person or newspaper to even suggest it…

Buy the Daily Mail tomorrow then, Phil. I’d go short odds about Mr Dene Stansall giving his thoughts.
