A few more runners today than in recent weeks but still all performed poorly at Warwick, including a fairly short-priced favourite. Doesn’t bode well for Black Jack and Wichita tomorrow.
Anyone know what is wrong in the stable?
December 31, 2007 at 18:32 #132621Fascinating to see how BJK and WL run tomorrow. I tell you one thing, neither will be carrying my dosh. I would like them to both run well though..
December 31, 2007 at 18:57 #132626I think the stable have a virus, that’s what i have been told. 1 winner in a couple of weeks ( bold fact 12/1 )
Im surprised RJ is on BJK 2morrow, interesting:)December 31, 2007 at 20:24 #132640He had Another Brother – nice ex-O’Sullivan horse who was second in a novice hurdle at Uttoxeter today.
December 31, 2007 at 21:56 #132647I wonder if AP had the choice, which one of BJK or WL he would have ridden tomorrow. I’m assuming that he didn’t have the choice because he is retained by JP!

He’s retained for Wichita Lineman and he didn’t have the choice.
Delighted to see Black Jack FINALLY dropped in trip, but stable form has to be a worry.

Apart from the way he was ridden, there was nothing at all wrong with Exotic Dancer’s run on Boxing Day, which supports Jonjo’s view that not all the stable is under a cloud.
BJK runs in a first-time tongue tie today, which supports David Johnson’s premise that the horse has a physical problem. As I also said, the horse had a wind-op in the summer, and the addition of this equipment lends credence to the surmise that it hasn’t worked, so the drop in distance wouldn’t make much difference anyway.
Either way, I wouldn’t back him to beat Afsoun over this trip with someone else’s money.January 1, 2008 at 10:01 #132666Certainly some sort of bug doing the rounds which makes having a bet dodgy to say the least.
It should be noted, after BJK last run, the ever cautious Jonjo said "on that it looked like he didn’t stay". He never said he didn’t and it would look like that if the horse is under a cloud.
If they both run like that, Asfoun would be a knocking bet as he looks as if this trip will suit better than 2 miles.
But being a huge fan I’m going to have just a small bet on BJK despite Jonjo saying they are both in great form but I will be watching the race with my eyes shut….fed up seeing him getting beat.
January 1, 2008 at 12:43 #132688Punters evidently seem to think there is a problem at the stable (and I would tend to agree!). The bookies couldnt seem to give Pass It On away yesterday (drifted from 11/8 to 2/1).
Not a yard I’d go anywhere near at the moment.January 1, 2008 at 14:34 #132694I had an interesting conversation at Celtenham a few years ago, with someone that had lived and farmed within two miles of Jackdaws Castle all their life.
Apparently, farmers from the area with knowledge of stock (sheep or cattle in their case) felt that the stables were built in the wrong place. The piece of land used has the reputation as a low lying area that attracted disease due to being damper than the surrounding hills and with little or no movement of air. Farmers would use the land fro grazing in mid summer, but never at other times of the year.
Whether that has any relevance, I’ve no idea, being 100% townie by birth and upbringing. But it certainly sounded persuasive to me as my own trainer was having problems with his horses whilst renting a yard that sat right next to a river. When he moved to a custom built stable 150 feet higher up on the side of the valley, the health of the horses was transformed within a few weeks.
AP
January 1, 2008 at 14:47 #132695You have mentioned this before AP and the fact that the yard seem to hit an awful patch of form at least once a year is highly significant.
The thing that rather disturbs me is that the stable continue to churn out runners as though nothing is amiss. The O’Neill stable is one that I never get involved with from a punting point of view for several reasons, but I feel that by running fancied horses ridden by the champion jockey is taking the common punter for a mug. I write this prior to Wichita Lineman and BJK "performing" in the 3.20 at Cheltenham.
January 1, 2008 at 14:47 #132696That is a very interesting observation.
I think it was Lambton writing after the first World War who thought that breathing problems in racehorses had declined during his training career as stuffy,ill-ventilated stables fell out of favour, and more fresh air became the order of the day.
Anyway, I’ve had a small bet on BJK, bugs/viruses notwithstanding, as this is his trip.
January 1, 2008 at 14:49 #132697Was’t there a discussion on here a few years back about the altitude of a particular stable, and the problems it appeared to be having? Guesty was it? his could be completely wrong btw
January 1, 2008 at 15:12 #132699Bob Hall runs like a fat pig, whilst Busy Henry wins a poor race at Exeter at 16/1…go figure.
If there is a problem within the yard, despite today’s winner, is not irresponsible to continue running horses as though no problem exists?
January 1, 2008 at 15:20 #132700Afsoun starting to look edgy and Jonjo says can’t find owt wrong with his horses
BJK and Ven collecting here
January 1, 2008 at 15:41 #132701BJK – I give up. Puzzling tactics but nevertheless awful performance. Thank god I didn’t back him.

I thought it was strange to have him chasing leader and even though Dickie got him back into it, that blunder can’t have helped him
Wichita plugged on ok – maybe those were the tactics
