A quiet time of year as you have to be very careful with the form book as the season changes. I am also off now for a week of a work so just one bet for today. I have been waiting for Frankuus to step up in trip and he finally does today. With the fav out I think he will take the beating.

    £75 win Frankuus – 9-2 – 2.25 winner 5-1 SP

Nice to pick the right Frankel. They are not all winning at the moment but that one looked good value as he stepped up in trip. I think he will be a nice colt next year.

Back with a couple of shorties today. Abingdon will thrive with this extra distance and is definitely going the right way. In France I expect Toulifaut to keep her unbeaten record and Moon Mountain makes his debut.

    £200 win Abingdon – 9-4 – 3.05 Doncaster lost
    £100 win Toulifaut – 5-2 – 1.50 Chantilly winner
    £50 win Moon Mountain – 3-1 – 11.40 Chantilly lost
    £15 win treble
    £5 win patent

A small loss on the day but delighted with Toulifaut who looks to being getter better with each run and with each furlong! Abingdon was the big disappointment. She ran like she did at Newmarket where it took her an age to get going – she is not very quick is she? Full marks to the winner and well done to Ralph Beckett – a good trainer and a good bloke.

I was annoyed to miss Glencadam Gold as I tipped him last time but I thought this looked an above average maiden and I see this horse being a middle-distance type next year. I am sure he will be running in nice races over those distances.

Nothing for tomorrow yet but will be on first thing with a bet or two.

A tricky looking day. I think Nemoralia will win again but not very interested in backing her at that price. So I have had ew on the two Frankel’s. Not just because they are Frankel’s but because I think they are decent value at the prices. On the face of it Majoris was disappointing last time but if you watch the race he was checked in the straight and then just plugged on. I think he will appreciate the drying ground and this is an easier race. Senator has to step up on what he has done so far but he will be a lot better for this step up in trip and, as long as he settles, has to go close. I don’t like the head carriage of the Godolphin colt but the Stoute horse could well be a danger so I have included him in a forecast.

    £35ew Majoris – 10-1 – 4.15 Doncaster loser
    £35ew Senator – 6-1 – 4.15 Doncaster loser
£10 rev combination forecast with Taamol

Will be disappointing if Last Kingdom can’t win over in France. Showed lots of promise last time and well entered.

£150 win Last Kingdom – Saint Cloud 1.30 – SP loser

With Johnny G in such great form I am hoping he can get me out of trouble at Salisbury with an old favourite of mine who would go close if returning to his best.

    £50 win Mr Singh – 9-2 – 6.50 Salisbury loser

I just don’t think he is the same horse as last year Nath. Happy to be proved wrong but I think the all-firing Gosden yard will win that one. Mind you I wouldn’t put it past your old mate Toormore to beat them all. I wonder what has happened to him this year – he looked so good first time out.

I would have liked to have seen Toormore stepped up to 10 furlongs just to see how he would have faired, just think at 7 and 8 furlongs his old legs are not as fast as his 2 and 3 year old days. He has a very good record 1st time out, probably stripped fitter than the rest that day.
I knew you liked Adday so thought I’d ask your opinion, I’ll steer clear and just watch. Cheering on me old mate.

    Probably the best idea Nath!

I feel blessed and peed off in equal measure today. I am taking the eldest boy up to Anfield for our first game in the new stadium BUT it means I miss all the racing!!! Time for Sky Plus I suppose!!

I have had lots of bets and because the wife wants me to do some chores before we set off on the 4 hour drive, you’ll forgive me if I just post them without explanations…..

    £80 win Richard Pankhurst – 9-4 – Doncaster 3.10 loser
    £75ew Muntaha – 4-1 – St Leger loser
    £50ew Maths Prize – 4-1 – Doncaster 4.10 loser
    £100 win Khattar – 7-2 – Bath 3.50 loser
    £50 win Persuasive – 3-1 – 5.35 Curragh loser
    £35ew New Bay – 8-1 – Irish Champ loser
    £75 win Minding – 3-1 – Irish Champ loser

I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry yesterday – a magnificent win for the mighty reds at Anfield and the perfect day with my son. But then a horrid day of tipping. You can’t have it all can you?!!

Never mind. This has been the toughest season in 5 go’s at this and it seems to have been the pattern that I have losing streaks and then winning ones. Let’s hope the losing one is over!! Undaunted, I have bets in 2 races today. I suspect Churchill might be vulnerable to something quicker and in Mehmas he is certainly up against one who will be. The question will be – can Mehmas stay 7f? If he can he will be tough to beat. I have also backed Lockheed at a big price.

Over in France I am a big fan of Zelzal and was surprised that he wasn’t odds-on. He is pure class this colt and his trainer can do no wrong. One of my old favs Dutch Connection runs but everyone apart from the trainer knows that he doesn’t quite get a mile.

    £25ew Lockheed – 25-1 – Curragh 4.15 loser
    £100 win Mehmas 9-4 – Curragh 4.15 loser
    £250 win Zelzal – 15-8 – Chantilly 3.50 loser

As bad a run as I can remember but let’s not get downhearted!! I have one bet tomorrow. I really liked Point Of View when I saw him at the beginning of the season and with the stable now in good form I am hoping he is better than his mark of 89.

    £50ew Point Of View – 5-1 – Yarmouth 3.20 lost

I backed Zelzal too and thought the jockey gave the horse a bit too much to do considering it was only a mile in a 6 runner race, although those tactics had worked the time before. Vadamos rather stole it and the favourite should do better next time.

I find it a difficult time of year for finding decent winners as the ground seems very changeable and some horses are nearing the end of a long season. That said, it has paid dividends backing Crowley/SDS runners of late even if they are riding a lot of horses daily. Both have had trebles today at some decent prices. Are you tempted to join this bandwagon or are you sticking to your guns with your “normal” way of picking bets?

Good to hear from you Joliff and you are right about the Zelzal races. Every year I tell myself not to bet French racing as you can have so many falsely run races but every year I ignore myself!!

You are right about the time of year as well. I am trying to look for horses who might be relatively fresh running for in-form trainers. The horrible virus they had in Newmarket this year may just mean that some of those horses can come good now it is the back-end. I am not normally one to follow jockeys blind but I certainly wouldn’t be put off anything ridden by JC or SDS at the moment! I have had bad spells before and come good by sticking to what I know so I don’t plan changing anything for now but I must admit the last week has been tough.

I have had 4 bets today. Whilst the recent Frankel debutantes have been poor there has been good money for Atty Persse today. Roger Charlton seems to have had them ready to run so hopefully this one will go close. I have also backed Zefferino as I think he may eventually be Group class and it is very telling that he runs in this conditions race rather than taking in an easier maiden. So Mi Dar is top class and should win over at Yarmouth. If she is at all ring rusty then I think Roger Varian’s Nezwaah might be the one to take advantage.

I haven’t backed Via Serendipity as he is too short but he works very well apparently and should be up to winning this so I have included him in my multiples.

    £80 win Atty Persse – 13-8 – Sandown 2.40 winner
    £150ew Zefferino – 11-4 – Sandown 3.15 lost
£150 win So Mi Dar – Evens – Yarmouth 3.25 winner
    £35ew Nezwaah – 7-1 – Yarmouth 3.25 placed
£3 win Lucky 15 (30 bets) the above plus Via Serendipity
    £5 win Accumulator (2 bets)

Joni, I see you had money on New Bay at the weekend. He disappointed a little bit, but as I’ve got him now as a more sensible alternative to Flintshire for the arc, I was wondering if you had any thoughts on him for that race.

I have him at 20-1 each way, and I think he has a chance of making the frame, to go along with my other bet La Cressoniere at 8-1.

It’s all about the Arc for this one Buckers and I am sure he will run well again. Andre Fabre is the master at winning this race and I am sure he would have pleased enough with his effort at the weekend. I also love your other pick – what’s not to like? Unbeaten and another being geared to the race. Obviously Postponed has been very special this year and seems bomb proof. I am sure 1 of these 3 will win.
