Not getting any easier. An impressive performance from the O’Brien filly though. Let’s hope either Johnny G or Lady Cec can get me back on the winners board in the last

How could I miss an 11-1 Hugo Palmer winner! Didn’t even notice he trained it! He has one more today and it has been backed in to near favouritism.

    £80 win Covert Love – 3-1 – 7.45 Chelmsford winner

Mixed feelings after today. Happy to get a winner in the last especially given she completely missed the break and looked to have no chance. But also annoyed at myself for not backing Hugo Palmer’s other one today. He is definitely a trainer to be followed. I am having 1 bet tomorrow. With Aiden’s string now starting to hit top gear I think Hans Holbein will go off way shorter than 9-4

£80 win Hans Holbein – 9-4 – Chester Vase winner

I had a good look at him Gord and you are probably right. Was worried about Cannock Chase though.

An easy win for Hans Holbein and the O’Brien juggernaut is clearly gathering speed. Tomorrow I think Tac De Boiston will have enough class to defy his penalty. He has his conditions and goes well fresh.

Word is William Haggas has a nice 2 year old running at Ascot tonight. You can still get 14’s in a place about Besharah

I have also taken on the fav in the Ascot 7.45. I am going to take a punt that Hawkesbury will settle a bit better tonight than he did at Ascot last week where he then got hampered but ran on over 6f against Limato. It is a much easier race tonight and the extra furlong will suit as long as he settles. He obviously has a lot of weight but 14’s is tempting. I have also backed Carnival King in the same race who I saw win well at Newmarket and who I think IS well handicapped.

    £25ew Hawkesbury – 14-1 – 7.45 Ascot
    £35ew Carnival King – 5-1 – 7.45 Ascot

Back in the black thanks to a very nice 2 year old filly! She has to be very promising as not a lot went right for her in the race. Hawkesbury also ran a stormer and for a split second I thought I was going to have 2 14-1 winners in the space of just over an hour!

Couldn’t believe when TDB goy overhauled in the last furlong at Chester. He looked a complete cert turning in and actually seemed to be outstayed ironically. I think he’ll win plenty of races this year as long as he gets his ground.

Off tomorrow for a few days work in Qatar but thought I’d post a couple of bets before I leave. I like the card at Lingfield and always used to try and go there as dear old Henry almost always had runners at the meeting. There should be a couple of nice sorts running in the trials but neither are worth backing so I have had a look at the fillies Group 3 over 7f. Normally I would be backing Kiyoshi as I love this filly and think there are big races in her this year. But her badly out of form trainer has warned that she will need the run as she has done both her racing years so I’ll leave her alone this time. The one for me at the prices is Hugo Palmer’s New Providence. She is race fit and ran a stormer in the Nell Gwynn. She was only beaten 3l by Lucida in the Rockfel last year so her form is rock solid and she gets that lovely age allowance. At 9-2 I think she will run a big race.

At Ascot I think Winter Thunder is a group horse in waiting. He was very progressive last year only disappointing once on soft ground. He is not much of a price but I expect him to win comfortably.

    £75 ew New Providence – 9-2 – Lingfield 4.05 placed
    £80 win Winter Thunder – 9-4 – Ascot 2.35 loser
£20 win double the two loser

So watching the video last night I was surprised at how soft it looked at Lingfield I guess it must have rained in the morning and I fear that is what cost us with New Providence. Still she ran well and Hugo Palmer remains a man to follow. Today I have just read that Andre Fabre is very keen on Mexican Gold and when he is very keen on something one should take note. She has a bit to find with the fav but is better drawn and has certainly done nothing wrong so far. 4’s is just about a backable price.

I really want to back Muhaarah as well but he really does have a terrible draw and will have to be something out of the ordinary to win from out there. I’ll be interested to see how he goes though.

    £75ew Mexican Gold – 4-1 – French 1,000 placed

A couple of quick bets. I would like to take on the Stoute horse in the last at Windsor tonight. I guess that they have been waiting for handicaps for June and she could be well handicapped. I see she has come in for support. I have also had a little bit on Hugo Palmer’s filly who won last time out.

I have had a bigger bet on a Lady Cecil colt called Western Reserve who runs tomorrow and is currently 4-1 so worth an ew. He ran a stormer from a wide draw on his debut behind a couple of more experienced horses and has Ryan Moore up again.

    £25ew June – 9-1 – 8.20 Windsor loser
    £25ew Peace Prize – 9-1 – 8.20 Windsor loser
    £100 ew Western Reserve – 4-1 – 7.35 Chelmsford winner

Delighted to see Lady Cecil train a nice winner and even nicer to back him at 4-1 last night. The early bird…….!!! He looks a smart colt and worth following.

Flying back tomorrow so will miss the racing but I thought I’d have a little bet in the first race at York. I backed Johnny Gosden’s horse first time out and I think he will take some beating but he is not much of a price so I am going to take a chance on a horse who I am fairly certain is potentially well-in. If you watch the 2nd race of Satellite’s career you will see him bolt 10 lengths clear under Frankie but still hold on to finish 4th behind Windshear and Cannock Chase. It was a pretty decent effort considering how quickly he went off and the rest of the season followed a similar pattern as his form deteriorated. So why back him now? Several reasons. Perhaps he is a horse that runs well fresh, he has come down in the weights, he has a very good piece of form in the book, his trainer is in good form and most importantly, he has been gelded. He could just be a dog but at 9’s I’m prepared to give him one last chance.

    £25ew Satellite – 9-1 – 2.10 York loser

This time of year typifies why I love the flat. Balloons still full but ready to burst or inflate further. This week it is one great day of racing followed by another followed by another followed by another culminating in the big TRF meet up at Newbury on Saturday. A fantastic days racing at York today but not sure how easy it will be to find winners. I’ll have a go anyway.

In the Middleton I have gone for Belle D’Or. She didn’t have easiest passage at Newmarket and was not given in any way a hard race. She stayed on under hands and heels and I think she has a chance of reversing the form with Bragging. Whatever happens I think she will get closer to that one today and that should be good enough for at least a place. She has drifted to an ew price.

The Dante looks as good a renewal as we have seen in years and several could win and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise. I am split between Jack Hobbs and John F Kennedy. I have sided with Jack Hobbs just because I think he might be a bit special. I know it was only a handicap he won by 12 lengths but, like with Frankel, you sometimes have to look beyond that and follow your gut. My gut said we were watching a very good horse that day. The problem is I think JFK could be pretty good too. I would ignore his comeback run on heavy ground when his trainer was out of form. He is miles better than that and he could bounce back today. I have put them both in a forecast just in case.

When I went to Ascot a couple of weeks ago the horse I took from the day was Tendu. She looked a million dollars and ran a huge race against Limato. She is very short but I’d be amazed if she didn’t win this easily and I think Blue Aegean will set it up nicely for her. I have had a little EW on BA as well in the hope that she can transfer her AW form to the turf. She takes some pegging back this one.

I have also had a couple of little bets in the big handicap on Hugo Palmer’s Ascription and Loving Spirit.

    £25ew Belle D’Or – 13-2 – 2.10 York loser
    £50 win Jack Hobbs – 11-4 – 3.15 York loser
£15 Rev F/C Jack Hobbs and John F Kennedy
    £20ew Blue Aegean – 12-1 – York 4.20 loser
    £200 win Tendu – 10-11 – York 4.20 loser
    £15ew Loving Spirit – 14-1 – York 3.45 loser
    £15ew Ascription – 18-1 – York 3.45 loser

A bad day at the office but I still enjoyed the racing.

I thought Secret Gesture was very brave as I was sure she had gone off way too quick. I like Ralph Beckett so pleased for him and hopefully she’ll win more races this year. Ribbons was the eye catcher for me. The Dante was very interesting and the front 3 are clearly very good. I wouldn’t necessarily say that the order would be the same if they raced again as, again, I thought they went plenty quick enough and Golden Horn sat back off it. I’m sure he benefited from that. Saying that I would say he is the most likely winner of the Derby as I have a feeling they will save Jack Hobbs for Royal Ascot.

I thought Ascription ran very well after a long lay off and I can see him winning races this year. Frankie had a nightmare on Tendu – you can’t miss the break by 4 lengths and expect to win over 5f at York.

Onwards and upwards and I am confident that I have found 3 winners tomorrow.

Brown Panther is developing into a favourite of mine and he will take some beating in the Yorkshire Cup. He has a penalty but I think he is a proper Group 1 horse and is only getting better.

I really liked Sperry at Ascot and it will probably be between him and his stablemate but I like the price and am sure he will be there or thereabouts.

I had a good winner with a Lady Cecil runner this week and I think she will have another one tomorrow. Destalink ran a very encouraging first race, staying on after being short of room. The extra distance will suit and I expect her to go very close.

    £80 win Brown Panther – 9-4 – York 3.15 loser
    £100ew Sperry – 4-1 – York 3.45 winner
    £100ew Detalink – 7-2 – Newmarket 4.10 placed
    £10 win treble

I’m very much a Brown Panther fan but I find it surprising that he’s never run at York before – perhaps there hasn’t been a suitable race for him, but it’s a slight concern. Romsdal always seems to find one too good although a return to this trip will be in his favour. Times Up could belie his odds as he loves the course but doesn’t usually win FTO. Snow Sky is my idea of the winner as he isn’t fully exposed over this trip and will appreciate the drying ground. Good luck with your bets.

    Always expect the unexpected.
