Having seen him up close on Sunday – F&G has a fine bit of size and scope about him. Not the biggest colt I’ve ever seen but certainly not one you would put down as possibly one not to train on.
April 13, 2010 at 15:49 #290075Apologies to anyone feeling bullied by my previous post. That was not my intention: which was simply to encourage the
carpers
to rethink.
You do it without thinking apparently.
Personally I felt Murtagh gave the horse a very gentle ride. Many of you seem to feel that nobody has any reason to complain. Whilst I accept that regular racegoers and supporters know what to expect I also feel that anyone would expect a jockey to give a long odds on shot a bit more of a ride.
It seems to be just accepted that there are different rules for different stables, well that is simply unjust in my opinionApril 13, 2010 at 15:54 #290076Not that I am singling out Irish racing. Have a look at the Yarmouth 4.30 for another ride which is very gentle. There is a lot of it going around.
April 13, 2010 at 17:29 #290097Fame And Glory is not very big, so there is a question whether he will train on at 4.
Ginger in disagreement with Timeform…
I will have to review my opinion on the size of Fame And Glory. Based it on what he looked like in the Arc and English Champion Stakes (from TV, not ideal). Suppose it might just be seeing a 3 year old up against older horses. You try to allow for such things, but sometimes get it wrong.
I do remember one of Aiden’s ex-3 year olds, who went on to run at Fontwell. Suddenly changed in size in Timeform’s opinion. Will have to look it up. So even Timeform get it wrong now and again.
Does seem as though I am wrong here. Apologies, please scrub my earlier comment!
Value Is EverythingApril 13, 2010 at 19:48 #290128Fame and Glorys victory in last years Irish Derby was one of the most impressive Group 1 victorys of the season! His 2nd to Sea the Stars was rock solid too,in the Epsom Derby,he will win a Group 1 this year too and anyone who knows their horses will know that.Yet there are plenty contributors to this thread that seem to think he was beaten fair and square on Sunday against horses that will never be good enough to compete against his like again! Unbelievable! Fame and Glory will run in a Group 1 next time,i hope you lot bet against him and learn from it! I for one knows he is a proper Group 1 horse who should have sauntered past Sundays field!I look forward to Fame and Glory Quietening his doubters!

Oh, he’ll be doing his damndest to win a group 1 alright, probably the weakest 10f race AoB can find, accompanied by an army of pacemakers, and all to prove to breeders that he isn’t the boat his form tells us he undoubtedly is.
Good luck with that one.April 13, 2010 at 21:08 #290157Reet dont put yourself in the "Numpty" class! This "Boat" as you put it won the Irish Derby in a faster time than The Minstrel, El Gran Senor, Generous, Sinndar and would just about have Dead heated with his father Montjeu, the horse is class,in fact i shall go as far to say he would be my King George pick at this moment in time!I"ll get 12/1 now!
April 13, 2010 at 21:28 #290161How about looking at the subsequent runs of those he beat in the Irish derby? a bit of form analysis?
not looking so good now is it?
I hope he keeps getting talked up this season because hes a definately lay in my books. Irish leger maybe….

The Clock doesn"t lie!
April 13, 2010 at 21:37 #290167In which case Cockney Rebel is the 2nd greatest Guineas winner ever.
Right.

Right.
3rd fastest actually! Pennekamp and Mister Baileys both won when the ground was like a road too!

But not everyone knows how to tell the time.
April 14, 2010 at 10:47 #290236Is it really justified to say that the stable is out of form? Could it not be that we have experienced one of the harshest winters for decades and presumably different yards will have adopted different work regimes to cope with the conditions. For all I know the working practices at Ballydoyle might have purposely dictated a much slower and laid-back approach to bringing horses up to speed. Why have prawn salad now when caviare is on the menu later?

Because I prefer prawns.
In fact if Gr1 racing was caviar I’d give it a miss altogether.

I’d rate FAG in what I would call the Conduit class, capable of winning against inferior opposition, in the right set up, but not top class. FAG supporters will be paying up more often than not but then again there are so many "astute" players around here I’m sure they’ll only be piling in when he wins.
April 14, 2010 at 21:55 #290313Just saw it for the first time expecting to disagree with the "carpers" but it did look bad. Whether he’s a "whip horse" or not one or two cracks wouldn’t have gone astray and IMO under more vigorous hand riding even he would have nearly won. The deafening silence on it from any of our racing press has also been interesting- if not for this what are those opinion pieces by Messrs Sweetman and O’Hehir in the Post for?
April 14, 2010 at 22:09 #290317I am sorry but I just have to comment on this time thing!!
There is no way on this planet you can say that horse A is better than horse B because it ran a race years apart in a faster time!! I love stats and trends but clockwatching will get you in the poor horse because every race is run different and circumstances such as wind ground early pace and numerous other factors can change a race and a result!!
I know I am rambling but its one of my bugbears that people cannot and will not see whats in front of their eyes!!
We all try to predict results and how horses run and the main reason we get it wrong(some more than others) is because of jockeys, ground, wind, early pace, track etc.If we didn’t get it wrong there would be no bookies!! If Timeform was correct every race then every bookie in the country would soon go skint!!
Okay rant over and anyway its just my opinion! -
