I don’t doubt Gosden’s loyalty to Dettori (who in fairness repaid him with a ride of sheer genius on Golden Horn in the Arc) and I agree (not that I needed to hear it from him) with Gosden that Dettori had a lousy Royal Ascot.

Gosden is also entitled to get rid if he likes.

What I deplore is the abject lack of quality Gosden showed in publicly slating Dettori.

    I don’t care what Gosden’s background is – that’s zero quality, none.

“Class,” (horrible term anyway) my a**e – Gosden has none.

I was thinking of Michael Jarvis earlier today, after Tom Clover trained the first winner at Newmarket (he is married to Jarvis’s daughter Jackie).

Jarvis worked as a stable lad for Gosden’s father.

It is impossible to imagine Jarvis petulantly criticising and making sarcastic remarks about a jockey.

I had a short look at Frankie’s numbers over the years. He has an incredible strike rate of 26% for Johnny G and has won about 26 million in prize-money in GB alone. That really is quite impressive, but it still doesn’t guarantee him a lifetime job.

On the other hand I wonder why Frankie has only had 19 rides for Sir Henry and 25 for Aidan O’Brien during his entire career. Maybe it’s just coincidence, maybe it is the jockey himself who couldn’t get more rides due to certain commitments. Barry Hills who had loads of runners and Sangster horses only gave him 52 rides. Probably I’m just reading a bit too much into it and forgot some facts about jockey bookings in the 90s. Perhaps the likes of apracing or Bobby would know more about what I’m trying to figure out.

“Frankie rang up the Gosden office this morning to discuss riding plans for the weekend, as he usually does, but didn’t get a call back. We’re in the dark as much as anyone else, which is a strange position to be in.

“We only have questions, not answers. We know absolutely nothing, so we’ll have to put the jigsaw together ourselves. Whatever John and Thady have done, we’ll all have to move on with.”

Just a very strange episode. Strad would never had won the gold cup and lord north either. Only the saga run led to losing a winner. Clearly there is tension between them but if they think hollie or whoever takes over wont have bad days there are deluding themselves. Not so long ago ryan was being pilloried. Hes been awesome recently. Form is temporary, class is permanent. Not everybody can last as long as lester.

You could look at it the other way. Perhaps if Dettori had a better trained horse underneath him he’d have won.

I wonder just how “amicable” it really is?

They still remain the closest of friends…. ha ha ha…. What a piece of crap.
I hope Hollie isn’t stupid enough to be thinking stable jockey. No she isn’t and she won’t do it.

Essentially , this is P.R. spin from both parties.
Gosden realises that he has handled this shockingly , and in public.
Dettori realises , that his Royal Ascot performance was awful , and that he is coming to the end.
Hollie Doyle (puts tin helmet on) is nowhere near equipped to take on the stable jockey role.
I guess that , as Gosden says , there will be no stable jockey appointed , that it will be a mixture of best jockey available , owners preference , and Havlin.
Sad reflection , that there are no truly great jockeys around at the moment , unlike the halcyon days of the 80s i.e. Piggott , Eddery , Carson , Mercer et al.

Havlin maybe the one who benefits the most with this ‘sabbatical’ on a day to day basis for sure as Hollie will ride the horses Gosden trains for Imad Al Sagar (Nashwa’s owner) under her retainer but that will also take her to other trainers like the Charltons, Varian, Cox & Watson who train for Al Sagar also.

With most of the top jockeys around (Moore, Buick, Doyle & Kingscote etc) already having retainers and more often than not they will be claimed in the big races so Havlin would be the obvious choice especially given he would have ridden most of the horses in the yard it will just depend whether Gosden (or more specifically the owners) are happy to put him up in the Group races….some might still want Frankie so will it be a true sabbatical where he simply doesn’t ride at all for them or will there be select times where he does????

    Go on, then; I’ll bite.

Why is she “nowhere near ready”?

Havlin only rides for Gosden yet is a huge price to be stable jock ….if I back him can I ask to be paid out immediately , anyone else missing Sir Henry , he had a bigger jockey issue but dealt with it with a tad more class , not sure where Dettori goes now , what’s the point of going on if he,s not going to get rides in the big races ….apart from O’Brien where else is going to employ in the group races

The “sabbatical” now being referred to is surely a permanent split, especially given the stage of Dettori’s career.

When you cut down on rides to become a “big race rider,” the focus on any errors can only be intensified.

Apparently, rightly or wrongly, it started with Emily Upjohn in The Oaks.

Royal Ascot brought it to a head.

I reiterate Gosden is entitled to both his opinion and to sever ties if he wishes.

What I find deplorable is the public way he has criticised his now former employee.

Gosden threw Dettori under a bus THREE times in quotes to the media on successive days and I think that is shocking conduct.

Any jockey taking on the job at Gosden’s yard in the future couldn’t be blamed for first insisting that any criticism of performance be kept behind closed doors.

Gosden might be a good trainer, but he couldn’t manage a fish and chip shop – what an awful bloke to work for.

“Apparently, rightly or wrongly, it started with Emily Upjohn in The Oaks.”

You could say it started with Dettori’s shocking ride on Palace Pier in the QE2, when he spent more time looking around for Jim Crowley and Baaeed than riding his own race. Gosden was clearly annoyed then and made a quip about getting him some wing mirrors.

I am not a big fan of Dettori and his hyperactive antics. He was wrong to criticise Hollie Doyle and Dylan McMonagle. However, I agree he has been treated VERY badly by Gosden.

I used to have a lot of respect for Gosden as a trainer and as a person. He is still a good trainer…

I wonder what Cheveley Park think about all this?

Dettori hasn’t put a foot wrong on Inspiral and now she will have a different jockey?

This is the filly Gosden failed to get ready in time for the 1,000 Guineas, a race Gosden has a poor historical record in.
