Won’t be any problem racing today- much milder night, just more rain!
December 9, 2008 at 15:33 #195611Noland is probably still on the upgrade but he looks a bit soft and he’s got very little pace.
The horse won a Supreme and he’s got "very little pace?"
That’s what the man said!! "Has got" not used to have.
He hasn’t shown that turn of foot in any chase I have seen him run in and I have seen tham all. OR has he?
He certainly finished well that day but had some real monkeys back peddling the minute they hit the risning ground..Straw Bear stopped almost dead…….Sublimity (Take heed fans) came there and died a dozen deaths in exactly the same fashion as he did in the Champion Hurdle last season..I think Noland was made to look a faster finisher than he actually is.
That apart I have backed him for today and I am fairly confident the will win this….Had it been a bit further I would have gone for WOA but this has never been his race in the past and I can’t see any real reason why he should fair any better this time.
I think the Listener is on the way out and won’t be a concern for the big two and Watson Lake may be a better place proposition. He should be up there sharing the lead early. He has won on this ground, the distance will suit him plus he proved quick enough to win over 2 miles last time out.
December 9, 2008 at 17:37 #195644Heavy going, so I’m plumping for The Listener E/W.
Fancy Snowy Morning may run on for the R/FC
Worth taking Noland on at the prices imho.

December 9, 2008 at 18:24 #195655The Listener at 5/1 is the value bet. Great price conditions should be ideal.
I agree. He’s a very consistent horse (last run aside) with conditions to suit. He also seems better suited to 2.5m than 3m, as he often seems to run out of steam at the finish of the 3m races. One of his most impressive performances came in this race last year.
In my opinion, the market has overreacted to one poor run in Down Royal. I also think it appears worse than it was, given he was totally out on his feet at the end. He’s had 6 weeks to recover, and I think if he hadn’t gone to Down Royal he’d be quite a bit shorter today.
The current 9/10 to place also looks like good value to me.
December 9, 2008 at 19:00 #195659absolutely dito.i am a big fan of him for a while now,and i think,he will run a big race today!!good luck,andy

December 9, 2008 at 19:19 #195662Bit lucky to take that Himself – shocking mistake from The Listener and still got within a neck.
December 9, 2008 at 19:20 #195664How did the race go?
December 9, 2008 at 19:21 #195665Damn mistake 4 out! Hard to know if it would have made any difference but Listener was closing at the end.
December 9, 2008 at 19:21 #195666whoop whoop nobby n sam are the men what a fab boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 oh and 4 everyone that dougbted them!!! lol am so chuffed lol xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
December 9, 2008 at 19:21 #195667ok,noland was just the better horse today, but nonetheless a great, brave effort by the listener!!ok,once again a mistake at a crucial point, but if it made that much difference,i dont know…i will be with him next time, thats for sure.

I thought Noland was idling in front. The Listener ran a good race but he is an old hand round Punchestown and loves the ground conditions. That said, the post couldn’t come quick enough for me. Phew !

December 9, 2008 at 19:31 #195670Didn’t see the race (bloody stupid office job etc)..but sounds like Noland was a worthy winner (?)
Well done Nobby….and fair effort from The Listener.
Snowy Morning ran like poo?

December 9, 2008 at 19:43 #195672Noland won on merit. The Listener second best with or without the mistake for me.
December 9, 2008 at 20:08 #195675The Listener would have won without the mistake for mine…
December 9, 2008 at 20:23 #195676That would be my assessment too TDK. You have to ask whether he lost more than a neck with the mistake. For mine it cost him 3 or 4 lengths, even accounting for Noland idling in front The Listener would have had it.
December 9, 2008 at 20:27 #195677Didn’t think it was Daryl Jacob’s finest hour TBH- seemed to go off very fast (was at least 10 clear at one stage) then let everything back in the race 4 out when he made the mistake. A more even pace and I reckon he’d still have had a length or 2 on them turning in, which might have been enough. Good effort from the winner though. Small crowd despite the free entry, understandable on a midweek working day I suppose.
