Gold Cup is bound to hold stamina doubts.
They can go quite hard in that race and the way he ran today that at least should see him settle.
Townend can hold onto him for the majority of the race and if he is within 4 lengths between the 2nd and last still on the bridle you’d hope he’d find something. Yes 2/1 is pretty short, that’s why I took 150/1 on Facile Vega, Jonbon, Constitution Hill and Galopin Des Champs to win any race. I’d be more confident in the Ryanair but Allaho would have to miss the festival I feel for him to run in that.Charles Darwin to conquer the World
December 19, 2022 at 15:38 #1627449I’ve always thought there’s a difference between staying even 3m – never mind 2m4f – on a Park course and getting the extended 3m2f round Cheltenham.
I’ve seen plenty of quality fast chasers get beat in the Cheltenham Gold Cup dating all the way back to Pendil in the early 1970s.
The King George at Kempton would probably be right up his street, though.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 19, 2022 at 17:02 #1627462Wouldn’t be worried about stamina that much personally
He stayed 3 miles as a 5yo
He settles much better now than then
And will be a more physically mature horse as a 7yo
Just think he’s an incredibly exciting horse
I mean I’d settle for the next sizing john or don cossack
Could be the next kauto, almost definitely won’t be, but from what he’s shown he could be
December 19, 2022 at 17:56 #1627466He,s a barking price for the GC , he won as he should today beating a Ryanair horse … 2-1 thanks but no thanks
December 19, 2022 at 17:58 #1627467HDLG – no manners, but what a critic, always telling it like it is.
I agree.

December 19, 2022 at 18:15 #1627471I doubt anyone would actually take the 2/1 on him
Same goes for loads of the favs
They are generally way too short, they are priced like it’s a NRNB market not a proper antepost market
If I wasn’t already on I’d definitely be looking for something e/w against him
He wins the Irish gold cup with any kind of authority I imagine he’d be cut into evs ante post and probably end up a bigger price on the day
December 19, 2022 at 18:21 #1627473A lot will depend on A Plus Tard.
Not many Cheltenham Gold Cup winners land the race by 15 lengths, beating standard by 4.25 seconds and earning an OR of 180.
He’s only rising nine too.
If he recaptured his form he still would set the bar all of them, Galopin Des Champs included, would have to reach.
But it’s wide open without him.

Since they found a perfectly reasonable excuse for his run at haydock I was happy to take the 10s on a plus tard
I believe he was actually as high as 12s at one point
Hopefully we see him in the savills chase
December 19, 2022 at 18:47 #1627479FF what did they find
December 19, 2022 at 20:13 #1627488HDLG they said they found abnormal bloods the week after they got back.
I smell a rat personally but that’s what they said.
I’m all over APT at 10’s to be honest. He’s practically the corner stone of my week.
December 19, 2022 at 20:41 #1627490Is there something in the yard ? , he,s had a quiet start to the season
December 19, 2022 at 21:09 #1627492There might well be.
But I’m more inclined to think he’s probably got other things on his mind at the moment and training horses is probably something he’s simply going through the motions of whilst trying to remain stoic and brave faced when in front of a camera or in and around his training yard.
December 19, 2022 at 21:27 #1627493Galopin Des Champs has no siblings. His damsire’s stock is 0 from 10 at 2m5f upwards. Sire Timos wasn’t popular and since 2017 his runners other than Galopin Des Champs managed just 4 victories. Timos’s sire Sholokhov has a strike rate around 24f to 26f with his progeny of 13.7% (UK & Ireland).
We won’t find out if he stays until Gold Cup day, at which point he might well be odds on. Assuming one or two rivals will be determined to test his stamina, the natural breathers Cheltenham offers on its downhill sections might not be enough to see him win it.
But, however his season goes, to say he was well bought must be a major understatement given his breeding. He was purchased for Mullins after his debut win in France at 16/1.
December 19, 2022 at 21:32 #1627494He’s already proved he stays 3m on a park course, but names like Pendil and Wayward Lad make me wary of taking any short-priced Cheltenham Gold Cup favourite’s stamina on trust.
It’s a tough enough extended 3m2f even when the ground is Good and if it comes up testing it can be attritional – Welsh and Midlands National winners Burrough Hill Lad, Master Oats, Native River and The Thinker have won it down the years.

Seventh foal; brother to French 2m-2m6f hurdle/chase (inc 2m6f Listed) winner Flute Des Champs….
A horse not too dissimilar in that he’s from France and wasn’t laced with stamina on his page is a certain Al Boum Photo. His novice hurdle and chase careers didn’t prove he was anymore stamina-laden that Galopin.
The 3m G1 hurdle he won was beating some thorough stayers as well.To be fair to those picking holes the price is crap- a statement that can be said for pretty much every single spotlight horse this year..

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 20, 2022 at 01:55 #1627504Jack, where did you get that information about GDC being the seventh foal? I only have Flute des Champs as his only other sibling. It doesn’t make sense since his dam was born in 2000. So there could be a few more of them out there.
But maybe the first five foals didn’t make it to the track or took part in other equine activities. No idea, if this makes sense either. - AuthorPosts
