It was announced on W Hill Radio today that (Lord) John Budden had passed away. I had to double check on the site before I posted this because even though they were discussing it today I still can’t believe it. I used to love it when he was on racing radio: loved his voice and his sense of humour. Always made a note of any northern horses he said to keep an eye on or young up and coming jockeys that were worth following. He was leading the naps table to and this months prize will go to the IJF. My condolences to his family.
I used to work with him when I was Editor of the Racing & Football Outlook in 1987.
He wrote Borderer’s Gossip, even though IIRC he owned and ran a small private school in Kent!
Never actually met him, but he sounded a lovely man on the phone and he was very good as a regional columnist.
