March 10, 2009 at 18:57 #2149394:02 i think, four sesonds quicker than last year anyway

Thank you sir.
March 10, 2009 at 19:00 #214946I hand timed it at 4m 01.5s – RUK have been giving out 4m 02.92s.
It rather depends what you define as the ‘start’, given they are on the move well before they pass under the gate.

Yes, but slower than every other recent year. I would think it’s definitely soft.
March 10, 2009 at 19:04 #214950I’d say more like good to soft than soft.
March 10, 2009 at 19:04 #214951I hand timed it at 4′ 01.22"
March 10, 2009 at 19:06 #214953If its somewhere in between Good to Soft and Soft its proper ground and nobody can complain really.
March 10, 2009 at 19:10 #214955I don’t think the ground is that testing. Unusually they went a pretty slow pace in the Suipreme. The winner wants decent ground and the trainers of the second and third were of the opinion their horses wanted better ground. Beware if you are on soft ground horses.

There are no official times for jump races – the times in the RP / Raceform etc come from the on track race readers and is teh average of two or three hand times – occasionally my time is used as well.
The timing is taken from the moment the tape is released – so when you have one of those races where the field do not set off immediately the time will be skewed.
March 10, 2009 at 19:27 #214966Did they ever actually turn on the taps at Cheltenham this year? I read there were going to but missed whether they actually did or not.
March 10, 2009 at 19:28 #214968I think if Tony and Ruby say it’s dead and good to soft then that’s what it is.
I’m amazed anyone sirtiing at home thinks they know better than the guys out there.

They have carried out some limited watering on the New Course

If you want to take that view it is up to you – not all jockeys give the same view. After I posted three good ground horses filled the places in the Arkle.
March 11, 2009 at 00:04 #215062I hand-timed it at 4.01 but I started as they started running so does that make it towards the back end of good to soft but with a drying week to come, so it should progress through good to Kauto ground by friday?
Maybe not a good week for soft ground horses – it looked good to me.

Surely if everyone was meant to trust jockeys unquestioningly Aristo, not a single punter would have backed Jered today. You shoud know more than most that connections keep things to themself if it suits them.
