Isnt it in the name horse racing not jockey racing on your bet slip you put the horse not the jockey and Im sure somewhere in betting rules law it will state you are betting on the horse.

Two ways to look at it

    1. If you bet on a f1 race do you back the driver if so and you bet on Lewis Hamilton and he went and rode round in a robin reliant do you get your money back or are you betting on both all combinations driver, car, team and pit staff to do there job.

    2. If you bet on Manchester Utd today to beat Chelsea this weekend and they bring out a reserve team are you entitled to your money back because of it, you bet on man u without knowing the team, you have no idea of the team until near the match, they may all get food poisioning and have to rely on a 2nd team.

In what respects do you stop claiming you want have your money back?

seabird, you didn’t dream it. you can still bet on named jockeys.
    totesport rules:-
jockeys mounts are accepted at sp only.
if the jockey does not ride it will count as a non-runner.
on this basis, if a punter has such strong opinions about a certain rider then he/she should back the named jockey.

marb – I’m not sure I understand your problem with ante-post betting. Surely the enhanced odds are the enticement to bet early and take the risk that you may not get a run at all. And nobody forces punters to bet ante-post anyway.

Well, if it’s important for you which jockey rides your horse just place your bet AFTER the jockey changes have been announced. I also have the problem sometimes: Shall I take the early prices or shall I wait for the changes? On one side updated informations about jockey changes, going and nonrunners are like the daily braed for a punter. On the other side early prices are often better. Hm…..

Using a top pro jockey to replace a jocked up apprentice to land a gamble is a tactic that has been used for years. Remember Fallon getting on one at Brighton after the apprentice got lost on his way to the track!

First time I saw this happening was in a seller at Musselburgh (early 70’s) when a top Irish jockey was substituted at the last minute. He did not have any booked rides at the meeting and it was his first ride at the track.

Mikky – if you bet over the phone will Hills you have the option of putting one condition on your bet.
    Eg.

    a) only stands if R. Moore rides
    b) only stands if ground no faster than good to soft
    c) only if….

They can’t be too random but you can do it with William Hill. I tried it with Ladbrokes backing Gemini Lucy as the 5/1 second fav in a 5 horse race and wanted it voiding if there were 4 runners as I couldn’t have the place part of the bet etc. but they wouldn’t let me :(

    Interesting stuff.

Can anyone remember the name of the horse involved in the controversy about 3 years ago – 7lb claimer held up in traffic and replaced by Kieren Fallon, who gave it a really strong ride to get up on the line?

Thanks for that info Irish Stamp – that’s very interesting.

Personally i’m not too bothered about it as I only place my bets at the last minute anyway. I started this thread, not for my own help, but for a debate as it was Boycee who wanted people’s opinions. I’m sure he will drop in and read what you have said, but I will also let him know just in case he doesn’t.

Once again, thanks for your info.

    (

Who decides what the ground is? Quite a few recently have been described as good to firm (watered) by the courses but have actually been good to soft and what happens if there’s a downpour before your race?
