September 14, 2013 at 15:10 #451246Why?
Value Is EverythingSeptember 14, 2013 at 15:12 #451247Good ride.
September 14, 2013 at 15:33 #451253being dead last 4f out with a with a some what qwerky horse under you trying to find a gap then getting hampered trying to find an opening really good ride?.. talent should of won this race without a doubt im not talking through my pocket well £2.5 win im furious

Just JMO
September 14, 2013 at 15:44 #451255But she’s always dropped out the back GA, like she was in the Oaks. Talent can pull hard, needing horses in front of her to settle, especially going up in trip. Horses like that need luck in running. Gaps did not come when Jim wanted them too, that’s racing, not his fault. (imo) Would not have beaten the winner who won with a little bit in hand I thought.
Particularly good ride by Joseph I thought. On a stamina horse made a point of getting a prominent position and pressed on at the right time.
Value Is EverythingSeptember 14, 2013 at 15:52 #451256But i think if he would of sat a bit closer or moved forward abit sooner he would of won she was travelling the best all through that race IMO she would of beat leading light
easy
with a clear run.

Watch the race again GA,
Talent was free early despite being right out the back. Had she been given any daylight Talent would probably have been rank. Only fully settled after 3 furlongs but nowhere to go, four horses directly in front and can hardly go around. Had to wait and foound one gap. Close enough if good enough 2 1/2 out. Secret Number unfortunately kept her in, not Jim’s fault, that’s race riding. Only cost half a length, if that anyway. Other than one minor piece of interference a perfect ride through (imo).https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGZU8ka-nC0
Compare to the Oaks GA.

Similar rides. Even Hughsie got in to a bit of trouble between Moth and Banoffee. Luckily, Banoffee went backwards, allowing a gap.
Value Is EverythingSeptember 14, 2013 at 16:42 #451262It was a S*it ride simple as that and anyone who disagrees knows jack S*it about Raceriding.Joseph rode a peach of a race and duly won,Jim Crowley couldn’t settle the filly and when he finally did he was stone cold last after 3 furlongs.there’s a great saying in Racing,’You can give weight away but not lengths’ ‘Talent’ was the best horse in the race today giving the winner 10 lengths but beaten barely 11/2l and closing.Yes she needs holding up but like any horse giving distance away the jockey needs to calculate just how much rope to give a leader, Jim Crowley hung himself with his.Jamie Spencer would have won on her and so too would have Richard Hughes.
September 14, 2013 at 17:52 #451272Neither trainer nor rider thought she’d have won with a clear passage (post race quote). I backed her too, but that is just the way she needs riding.
September 14, 2013 at 20:33 #451282I also backed Talent – to win only at 14s – and think she was beaten fair and square. She’s obviously not an easy ride – doesn’t like to be surrounded by other horses especially early on in a race so think Crowley had no choice but to have her out the back. Talent looked the likely winner 3 out and although slightly impeded 2 out I got the feeling that the winner could have pulled out a bit more if needed late on.

Crowley certainly gave his mount plenty of ground to make up on rain softened ground.
However I agree that the winner (wears cheekpieces) appeared to be idling in front and could have pulled out more.
September 15, 2013 at 07:33 #451322In many races there are horses coming from the back and making up ground on the winner, but doesn’t mean to say they would have won if ridden more prominently. Same applies to Talent, looked a fair run race, the best horse won and Jim Crowley got the best possible result for his horse – which is surely what you want from a jockey.
July 31, 2015 at 18:39 #1152441He had a shocker today on The Corsican, should have won.
Had a golden opportunity presented to him to get the rail alongside the leader and for some reason declined it. Why look a gift horse like that in the mouth? Then went from cantering to riding like a madman in the finish when he realised he’d cocked up. Deservedly he didn’t get up to win after losing the horse his impetus.
Meanwhile Frankie, who some on here wrote off last season rode a cracker on the winner.
Form is temporary. Class is permanent. That’s the difference between a top jockey and an average one.
Swap the jockeys here and you would have had a different result.July 31, 2015 at 18:48 #1152446That’s the difference between top jockeys and ordinary ones. Dettori top jockey, Crowley ordinary.
Not sure he would have hacked up but would probably have wonJuly 31, 2015 at 19:13 #1152450I didn’t back The Corsican ; in fact , I didn’t anything in the race –
and have nothing to offer on the merits of Crowley’s ride –suffice to say that I am of the opinion ( always have been )
that Jockeys do make a difference . As in any sport ,
there are above average , good , average , below average and downright
bad performers. Crowley probably comes under the average category,
but to say that jockeys do not make a difference or a big difference
is just nonsense.Just for the record , I never back any horse ridden by Jamie Spencer or Dane O’Neill.
Personal choice – why ? Five times bitten , six times shy etcGambling Only Pays When You're Winning
July 31, 2015 at 19:25 #1152451Yes, jockeys do make a massive difference. Unfortunately, where the current weighing room is concerned it’s about 99% negative.
July 31, 2015 at 19:53 #1152454LOL himseld, I like your comments about jockeys very true and also about Spencer and O’Neill.
There are a number I never back even if I think the horse will win.
Graham Lee, James Doyle to name but two and a number over the jumps. - AuthorPosts
