Regal Encore 25/1 for me, really reminded me of At Fishers Cross under McCoy last season and I think Honeyball will go for this rather than Albert Bartlett but that’s just me making a rather uneducated guess. He travels well and has a nice turn of foot when AP says GO!
He’s racing on Saturday over 2m4f at Chepstow so his performance in that may be telling as to where he’ll go come March.
October 10, 2013 at 13:52 #454415Guessing you meant for the Neptune Ben? He won’t be jumping fences just yet mate. Fascinating prospect though.

Haha I’m a mug, was in a rush before work and made the thread too quickly!
But yes Boz I meant Neptune!
October 20, 2013 at 17:32 #455626Betvictor will lay you 40/1 against Third Intention winning the Jewson.
If he doesn’t run you get your stake back as a free bet (up to £50). Third Intention is a horse I’ve always been interested in – I’m convinced there’s a good race in him and have backed him each time he’s run. He has appeared quirky and looked best held up, but a wind op in summer seems to have helped him keep his head down, and he won comfortably on his seasonal debut.
Still only 6, his lack of success last season sees him retain his novice status. He’s run 9 times at Cheltenham – 2 wins, 2 seconds, 1 third – and there must be every chance he will be aimed at the Jewson again (he finished 6th in it this year).
If he lines up, he’ll almost certainly be the most experienced chaser in the field, with some of the best form to boot. He’s 4 times the price he should be imo and must be backed, especially with that precious concession of not losing your stake.
November 18, 2013 at 20:30 #458883Despite this not being a top race yet I believe Champagne Fever could end up here as they surely won’t bottom him in the RSA and he looks like he needs further than 2 miles now
December 17, 2013 at 20:21 #462068Really like Felix Yonger for this and believe he represents the best value in any of the races at the moment.
The only way he goes for the Arkle imo is if something goes amiss with Champagne Fever. He has plenty of stamina and motored up the hill in the Neptune behind Simonsig, a mile clear of the remainder.
I can’t see any of the Irish horses getting near him with the possible exception of Don Cossack, with the likes of Morning Assembly and Bright New Dawn looking more likely for the RSA. Wonderful Charm looks best of the English at present. I’m not an Oscar Whisky fan really and prefer novice chasers who don’t spend an extra season, never mind an extra three. I’d take Taquin De Seuil over him as well.
However I think Wonderful Charm and Taquin De Seuil need to improve to get to the level Felix Yonger is at. His stamina came into play when thumping a weary Trifolium at Navan last time while he showed a brilliant cruising speed to beat Defy Logic before that.
He’s 8/1 generally and 13/2 with BV who are NRFB. I think he should be a 5/1 shot, can see him going off short enough.

Yes, I was very impressed with him LTO (had a right wedge on the double with Faugheen 1/3 + 8/15
), picked off Trifolium in strides and jumped well. My only reservation is backing Mullins novices ante-post in any of the races. Both races are Grade 1 now, so personally i’d be pointing CF at this and FY at the Arkle.December 18, 2013 at 19:01 #462182Champagne Fever and Oscar Whisky are my two at present.
If it’s soft though i think they’ll run CF in the Arkle.

I’d think it’s probable Champagne Fever will run in the Arkle even on the likely good to soft.
December 21, 2013 at 00:43 #462498Felix vs Champagne at Leopardstown according to Mullins
December 26, 2013 at 15:33 #463001Felix Yonger has drifted to 14/1 for this with Bet Victor on the back of his defeat today at Limerick. The ground was heavy and when asked to quicken after the second last he couldn’t bridge the gap to The Paparazzi Kid, who he was giving seven pounds. It looked a slowly run race and I wouldn’t give you much for the reliability of the form.
If we look at his form on a larger scale it has received a number of serious boosts today. Defy Logic and Trifolium, who he swatted, have placed 1st and 2nd in the Grade 1 at Leopardstown while he thrashed The Paparazzi Kid 23 lengths giving him 4 lbs last time out. If you didn’t know Felix Yonger has run today you’d think he was becoming more and more the horse to beat for the Jewson, his form receiving plenty of boosts.
14/1, time to fill the boots!
January 2, 2014 at 20:11 #463623As always it’s a guessing game but I think Felix Younger will head for the Arkle
January 8, 2014 at 14:17 #464227The two horses that have this as their sole objective are Oscar Whisky and Wonderful Charm.
At the prices 10s is still available on Oscar and yes, you may say he’s not got the profile of a winning novice at the festival, however, three runs and two wins (new course) over the Cheltenham fences will have him absolutely ready to roll in March and I think he could very well break his festival duck. He will have by no means been fully tuned up as I’m sure thursday 13th is the only day that matters in his 2013/14 campaign, unlike previous seasons where his plans have been somewhat up in the air.
Dangers abound and you couldn’t call the field at this stage, however 10/1 about an ultimate Cheltenham specialist who is a cast-iron Grade 1 horse is way too big to pass over.January 9, 2014 at 13:38 #464321This thread apparently needs renaming the
JLT Novices Chase.
. Yet another sponsor change. Afraid the race names pretty much now mean nothing as also the frequent Bookmaker sponsorship changes have no real association with a particular race. I’ve only just clocked that BetVictor are now sponsoring the QM Champion Chase. Pretty sure it was previously Sportingbet?
BetVic are a joke in terms of laying decent money – a far cry from the principles of the old Victor Chandler operation. They even removed BOG from my account because it had worked in my favour for a couple of months.January 28, 2014 at 11:29 #466312Sizing Gold heads straight there after his second the week before last, 33s with Hills, won’t be that come the day.
January 28, 2014 at 12:53 #466318Definitely a back to lay horse. Could be 16’s on the day.
January 28, 2014 at 14:08 #466325Sizing Gold also interests me and i’ve had a small E/W investment in the race. May not be the classiest in the field but the best jumper i’ve seen so far.
