    Society Power 10/1 365 NRNB

At first glance, the form suggests Emaraaty should be beating SP at the weights, but i was mega impressed with SP at Goodwood. The test of Ascot should really suit him and i get the impression he just finds enough in his races.

    From my preview:
    5:35 – Jersey Stakes (Group 3)
A wide open finale to end day two with only two of the 24 runners at single digit figures in the betting – Emaraaty and Could It Be Love. The former cost a whopping 2.6 million Guineas but has had his troubles. There clearly is some talent there though and he could just be too good if finally living up to his potential. The latter has the best form of this field with a brilliant second in the Irish 1000 Guineas when so nearly stealing the race off the front before being pegged back late. Expert Eye is seriously talented but is impossible to back with any confidence with his tendancy to pull too keenly and losing all chance in the first half mile of his races. Headway was a close second in last year’s Coventry at this meeting and won on the all-weather when finishing strongly over this trip. He was then outclassed in the 2000 Guineas but could go close here. James Garfield is solid but will likely find something improving past him. Society Power will finish fast under Jamie Spencer but only narrowly beat Emaraaty last time when receiving 10lbs and they run off levels today which makes it far harder. Purser is a 7f specialist with four wins from five attempts at this distance and has a touch of class whilst Tabdeed and Walk In The Sun are thrown in at the deep end on just his third start – which is still one more than Arabian Coast who frankly could be anything based on his scintillating debut success. Brother Bear is a tad overpriced back on his favoured ground and Hemp Hemp Hooray runs for the USA. Instead the speculative nod goes to GLORIOUS JOURNEY (33/1 e/w 5 places) at a massive price and five places with Paddy Power. He won both starts in his two year old campaign – including a group 3 – before running a stinker on his seasonal reappearance. He looked far sharper when third in his final start to date when behind the subsequent French Derby runner up and fourth. That form puts him bang in this and the stiff mile on his favoured ground makes him set t run a massive race.’

I picked out Brother Bear. His poorest runs last year were on yielding and soft. His faster ground efforts were better and he won recently with a personal best equalling Racing Post Rating. I feel he may develop into a 7F specialist and I sacrificed some of the odds to gain more places for an each-way bet.

He looked decent in his first two starts and went off Favourite for the Coventry at last year’s meeting.

A race for small stakes this year and a speculative pick for me on the Harrington horse.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Tough race to call but I was surprised to see James Garfield at 16’s. Has 9-6 on his back but SDS on board again after staying on over 6f in a group 2 run in a fast time. Just a nibble for interest.

Emaraaty 11/2 for me, he looks like a good horse to the eye. Merlin Magic e/w (4 places) at 40/1 also looks a good bet if the far rail is the place to be.

This race often won by Guineas failures so my three against the field are

    COULD IT BE LOVE 11/2

    SYMBOLIZATION 14/1

    JAMES GARFIELD 16/1
and a combo forecast and exacta the three!!

    Good Luck Guys :good: :good:

Emaraaty’s last run was top drawer giving Society Power a stone, 11/2 generous IMO.

10 lbs, not a stone Kev. But I agree a cracking each way bet, I’ve taken 5/1 quarter odds first 5.

Had Emaraaty beaten Society Power in a conditions/group race (under level weights) by over 3 lengths – Emaraaty would be a lot shorter… And with Gosden in great form shouldn’t be missed.

You would have to think that Frankie would know which one of Gosden’s to get the leg
up on, (Between Purser and Expert Eye) which is a slight worry for me as I had penciled in Expert Eye
(14/1) It’s hard to get out of the memory the manner of his first 2 races at Newbury and
Goodwood last year, he was promising. His race in the Dewhurst can be forgotten, he finished
lame. His return in the Greenham Stakes was encouraging, he finished really well in 2nd and
he was bound to come on for that after a break of over 6 months. There’s no doubting he was
disappointing in the 2000 Guineas and he would need to settle better here if he were to be
competitive, but I still think this is a very good horse. Frankie has probably gone for Purser
because there aren’t as many questions to answer, but I think EE is worth the chance that he’s
learned enough by now to take this.

Well done with Expert Eye, he’s bounced right back and pissed up there. Group 1 class in a Group 3 race?

Good week for Juddmonte, hope it continues with Equilateral.

Looked like the 7F was ideal for Expert Eye, not sure he would have like the Commonwealth as much but he’s thrashed those today.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Great to see Expert Eye back at his very best, clear of the field. Group 1 horse. Well done BigG and others.
After the Vintage was my long range 2000 Guineas bet, Comes good, obviously not with my money on him.

Cheers Steve and Ginger, I was glad to see him living up to the promise of his runs
last year, he looked very decent today. It was a nice way to finish off the day :good:

Fine call, Graham. The Expert Eye bubble appears to be reinflated. He fairly skipped across that ground and looks very low-actioned despite his decent run with give at Newbury.

Fast early pace might be vital to ensure he settles, but no other reason to restrict him to shorter trips in my view. He was powering away at the end.

Thanks Joe, and as you say, he definitely settled better and the pace was very likely
a factor there. I see no reason why he couldn’t manage a mile, he was going away in the
final furlong. Stoute seemed to suggest that Expert Eye didn’t much like Newmarket.
It will be interesting to see where he goes from here.
